Spent the weekend sick. Thankfully, DH was home and took over toddler duty. Poor DS. He's used to being able to drink from Mommy's cup (even though he has his own readily available) and he couldn't because I was sick. He was not a happy fellow but oh well - Don't want him getting sick.

LL, that sounds terrible. I'm sorry!

chef, get well soon!

ohfour, yeah on baby day!

I haven't updated on the situation yet here but yes, it's been dicey. The restaurant was less than two miles from my home. So far only gang members are dead but we don't know about the 18 injured. I guess they issued retaliation on the cops. DS has a bunch of fireman and first responder shirts that both he and DS wear. I need to remind them not to wear them. The sad thing is this all could have been avoided.

Not really. When it broke FB was filled with speculation. I had to try really hard to calm down and remember that people were just guessing. Even some of my friends. Some people speculate that it was about a parking spot but the latest I've heard is that it was over turf. The Bandido's felt like the Cossacks were moving into their territory. Not sure if that is a hundred percent true or not. There were two main gangs there, the Bandido's and the Cossacks. The Bandido's were originated in TX in 1969. Like the Cossacks, they run drugs, weapons, and prostitution rings. In 2013 the Bandido's and the Cossacks got into a brawl that resulted in one death from a stabbing. It was considered the most violent gang attack up until yesterday. The Schimatar's are the last gang and they wear patches on their jackets that say "We ride with the Cossack's." So while they are their own gang they also support anything the Cossack's do. All three groups were there yesterday. The Bandido's are the worst of the worst and adamantly seek revenge for all the wrong doings both real and perceived. We are damn lucky the casualties were so low.

Because the police were tipped off they were seconds away from the restaurant. Most of the casualties were due to police firing on the gangs. So that's why the gangs issued a revenge shooting to all the cops. It's sad. We have such nice cops around here. They rarely write tickets and are always helpful. I got to read some of the comments that were trending. They were sickening. People were saying stuff about how this is why TX shouldn't have gun rights. Um, most of the weapons there were ILLEGAL. These people would have had weapons even if we didn't have guns rights. Then several commented that more would have been killed if they were black. I don't think that's a fair assumption at all. And some looked at the pictures of the gangs sitting quietly in the parking in the aftermath and wondered why they weren't zip tied and thrown into a wagon. They were sitting there under armed guard. We had every police force from every county and city here possible. There were so many bikers they didn't have enough paddy wagons. They had to call the city and rent public transportation. The gangs were loaded onto buses under armed guard and taken to the convention center where they were held again, under armed guard until they could be questioned.

Now you know the history of gang life! Oh, and btw, these gangs have branches in every state.

WOW! Don't go outside if you don't have to. That is terrifying. I'm glad no police were hurt. I hope they really get over their revenge shooting. I imagine the police will be on high alert all summer. You hear the crime rate climbs with the temperature & now with this out there.

I remember years ago when the beltway sniper was here & everyone was afraid to go outside. Pumping gas was like having a target on your back.

I remember the Beltway sniper too. They made it into a Criminal Minds episode. Yes, I hope this dies down. I'm sure the police will be on high alert for awhile though. It's really weird because I live in such a small family oriented community. You would never believe this would happen. In one of the pictures I posted on yesterday's daily you can see a bunch of shops in the background. I've shopped there often. DN and I were in one of them just last week.

I don't think Twin Peaks will be allowed to reopen. They were allowing the gang members to carry weapons in the restaurant which is against the law. They have a bar and you can't carry if a restaurant serves alcohol. I know their liquor license has already been pulled. The police had had several meetings with the owners asking them NOT to encourage the bikers but the bikers were great revenue. It's funny because Twin Peaks issued a statement late last night saying they had no idea what was going on and would be willing to work with the police. The police said that was a bald faced lie.

I remember the sniper. I used to get gas in Manassas where he struck. I still sit in my car while the pump is running, JIC. He was finally captured at the rest stop I used to stop at on my way home from BWI when I lived in WV. It was way too close for comfort.

I lived in Manassas at the time.  Just behind that Sunoco that got shot at.  I sometimes got gas there.  I switched to the Shell a few blocks down because they got a bunch of Hummers & lined the perimeter of their lot with them.  It at least gave the illusion of protection.

Me, too.  I'd drive down 28, get my car washed, turn right and stop at Taco Bell, then Lowe's, then down to the shopping center on weekends.  When they opened Sheetz I'd fill up there.  It was like a ritual.

It really was. I've been in the job for over a week and they hadn't said anythimy about a salary change. I was more than comfortable on what I was making and was ok with staying at that rate. Then the HR director just nonchalantly gives me the change form. I had to remember to close my mouth. It's more than a 15% raise.

After dinner we went shopping.  Wasn't planning on buying anything, but saw a super cute dress. It was more than I'd usually allow myself to pay, but what the hell, right??

Had the best day ever today. Went the the beach/ocean with my friend and her two little ones. Pooch came too - he's exhausted from all the swimming! He was really good with the children too. I was a little worried as the kids are 6 years and then 18mos, and Pooch is not really used to kids. The 6 year old worked really hard to get him to trust her and Pooch tolerated the 18 mos old.

It's a weird and strange feeling to know that!  We normally have such a quiet little town.  Very family oriented.  People move here just for that reason!  The police are saying this is the worst gang fight in history.
