I am confused as to why they should "have to take a stand" in the first place. Perhaps you can explain.

No one shouldn't have had to take a stand about any thing ever.

They took this class and I doubt they didn't know about th8s teachers "policy" from the beginning. Why did they wait until it was them and it was over to say something?

Why didn't any of the other women, in any of the other classes of this teacher ever complain?

If you want something to change, you say something. You take a stand.

In my opinion, the women put themselves in that position.

Lily - the point is that shouldn't be put in the position to have to take a stand. It's WRONG to put them in that position in the first place.

So again, why was this not stopped by the school before? Why did these two not protest at the beginning of the course? Why did they agree to participate?

I never said it was right. But they had so much time to say "this isn't right" before they did it.

No, it's not a head in the sand way of thinking to expect that a college class will not expect students to be subjected to physical penetration in front of other students. That should never even be a THOUGHT, let alone an expectation.

Would you expect her to sit quietly while it happened to anyone? Would you? The second you got wind that this was done in class, would you wait to see if it was your daughter who did it?

Or would you expect her to stand against it, no matter who it was?

Someone has to be the first to challenge it, change it.

And that is why people have to sue to effect change and make people do the right thing. Which is why our court system is such a mess. You are putting the responsibility on the students to make the right thing happen instead of putting the responsibility on the school to DO the right thing in the first place.

I am taking a class that requires active participation. This participation includes vaginal exams performed in class by other students. As long as it isn't me, ok.

The attitude I see is, it wasn't a problem until it was them.

If they had been the ones doing the exam instead having it performed on them, would they have said a word?

They felt intimidated into it. We are, afteral, talking about young adults that if brought up properly learned to respect their elders. They were probably in such a state of shock when the topic was brought up they didn't know what to do.

Here's the problem. It becomes rape, abuse, whatever you want to call it whenever there is an abuse of power. ANYTIME that ANYONE feels that they don't have the right to say no for whatever reason then you now have a problem. When bosses expect sex and threaten your job if you don't comply that's harassment. These girls did not feel able to safely say no to the professor. That in itself makes it abuse. And abuse of authority. They were told if they didn't volunteer their grade would suffer. Well, the very definition of volunteer means to do it willing. These girls didn't do it willing. They did it because they were afraid they would fail the class if they said no. So there is an abuse of power. It clearly puts them on stable ground for a lawsuit. And it doesn't matter if a thousand women before them did it. THESE two didn't want to. That argument is as stupid as saying "Well, ALL my secretaries have given me blow jobs in the past." Just because they did in the past doesn't mean it's right.

Why? The felt uncomfortable. And, when you are with your peers, you start to doubt yourself, like maybe you are being silly. The question is why didn't they protest Befor. The question is WHY are they subject to this in the FIRST place.
