And, I don't think someone should say "I know how you feel". Like I have seen people lose a child and someone says "I know how you feel because I lost my 88 yr old grandmother". No, you don't know how that person feels. That isn't even remotely the same.
I can't even imagine losing a child. I've been to a funerals for at least two kids, two teens and two very young men. There is a big difference. I'm not saying you won't grieve your 88 yr old grandmother, but a child's funeral is a hard one to go to.

I have been to one also. It's the worst thing I have ever attended. There is NO comparison. And people who compare the death of a pet to the death of a loved one should be banished to their own island.

I don't like it when that phrase is misused. I believe that Job's situation is why it's misused. None of Job's trials and tribulations were given to him by God. But people see that God allowed them and confuse it with what is said in Corinthians.
God never will give us more than we can handle. But God isn't the only one giving us things to handle. It is up to us to ask God to take those burdens from us if we think they are too great to bear. There's a line in the movie "Deep Impact" said by Morgan Freeman's character (President), that sums up my thoughts well: "I believe that God, whomever you hold that to be, hears all prayers, even if sometimes the answer is no." (personally, I wouldn't have included the "whomever you hold that to be" had I been saying it, but it was part of the quote in the movie)

No, they weren't given to him by God--but God did allow them since he told Satan to basically do his worst.
Yet Job remained steadfast in his faith despite the unimaginable suffering that he faced.

Well, I could agree with you--but then we'd both be wrong.

I agree that Job is a good example. But Job was not some extrahuman person. There was a lot of Why God and complaining and questioning. I think we forget that Christians are still allowed to be human beings in their suffering.
It is these types of platitudes that turn me off of Christianity. They make the speaker sound like a brainless idiot. I realize not all Christians say crap like this but the ones that do make it impossible for me to take anything they say seriously.

This EXACTLY.

The reverse is true about non-believers as well. Stupid statements are made by stupid people whether they're Christian or not.
