I'm really not a fan of the cult of Marilyn. She was an adulterer and a drug addict.
I think we are always surprised to find out that human beings are flawed people. Everyone is. And, yeah, some people's sins are more public or more egregious, but everyone has their own things to wrestle with in life. As for addiction, if a doctor prescribed it back in her day, then it was deemed to be OK.

Yes, they are. Obviously, Bonny chooses not to be a fan of someone with her particular sins. And yes, everyone is flawed, but not everyone chooses to engage in certain sins. And certainly, not everyone who so publicly engages in all sins should be put on the altar to worship.
Look at Josh Duggar - he made mistakes as a kid and people don't care that he was a minor - they are ready to string him up and they don't care that his privacy was violated because his life is in the public eye.
Marilyn Monroe, however, was known to have several affairs with married men and outside her own marriage and she is worshipped.
The world is a little f'ed up.

I agree. Nobody has to be a fan of anyone. But, if you seriously believe that celebs or leaders or politicians or your minister or your neighbor doen'st have some character flaws, you are deluded.

Of course they have character flaws, but adultery isn't exactly a character flaw - it is an action taken based upon a character flaw - because everyone knows it is wrong, and yet people CHOOSE to do it, anyway. That is purposely flaunting marriage vows that were voluntarily entered into.
Everyone has their own view on what is egregious and what is not.

True. But, people act SHOCKED, SHOCKED, SHOCKED to find out that other people have issues. Well, duh. So does everyone. We are bowled over by someone taking drugs, but gluttony in the church, well pass the pie! Sin is sin is it NOT?

It is. But I don't think eating pie in church qualifies as gluttony.

No, not in of itself but you know what I mean. I personally think the church is overly focused on certain sins while ignoring others. That's my point. And, people do the same thing. What about the sin of Pride? God had a lot to say about that but we dont' seem particularly bothered by that.

Where did I mention sin or the church? Adultery is bad by societal moral standards without even needing to bring the church into it.

I care. Pride is probably actually the worst sin b/c it is the one that keeps people from God. Thinking they don't need him or they know better than him.

Yes. But, where do standards come from? God.
I agree - but people that don't believe in God don't believe that, and yet most still think adultery is bad.

Well of course they do. Because God has "written his law on the hearts of men". That is why there is a pretty common set of morals across the board.
What is funny though, is that we are more upset by indiscretions of celebs and athletes than we are for our leaders!
That is because they are put on a pedestal more than our leaders are. Most will complain about and question and realize that our leaders pretty much suck, but celebrities? They just get love and adoration.

Gluttony isn't just about eating too much. Just like famine isn't about not having enough.
Gluttony is over indulgence or consuming anything to the point of hurting yourself. Food, sports, concerts, other people's opinions. It's when what you enjoy or need takes over and becomes all to you.
Famine is starving for anything. Food, love, attention.
The line between gluttony and famine is so thin it is often blurred and the two are mingled.

Marilyn Monroe was a beautiful creation of Hollywood.
Back then, her acting ability was above average, and the black and white "soft focus" cameras of the era really did like her. Today, if she was the same age as then and the same talent and looks, I don't think she would do nearly as well or be anywhere near as famous.
I'd also be wary of memes that attribute sayings to anyone. I once saw a meme with Abraham Lincoln commenting on the speed of the internet. I'm pretty sure Honest Abe never actually mentioned the internet during his lifetime.
I kind of don't get the "oh she wouldn't be famous today" type remarks. Well, who knows? Maybe she would or maybe she wouldn't. It's kind of irrelevant. She existed in the point of time when she existed. A lot of famous people today probably would not have been famous then and vice versa. But not sure why that matters. They are what they were.
she was a legend in every respect--the living, breathing embodiment of the " Hollywood dream "--if you've seen many of her films, you began to realize that she's not just an actress, she's a very talented comedienne--" Some Like It Hot " is a perfect example of her comedic talents--opposite tony Curtis, jack Lemmon, George Raft--true, she was somewhat limited as a serious actress but then again that wasn't really her strength and she was rarely cast as such--regards her personal life--lord, married to DiMaggio ( a legend in his own right ) involved with the kennedys and the Camelot set--dying under rather mysterious circumstances--all parts of her aura and allure to this day

I actually want to hear why Bonny doesn't like her. It makes for interesting conversation. Much more interesting than posts like this.
Aww...
Have you missed her other posts? Cause she has said a few times now.

I didn't post this thread for any other reason than she would have been 4 years older than my still living grandmother.
It made her more real I guess since I had a human reference to her.
I don't worship her. I think she was a whiny little girl playing dressup.
But she was an icon.
Wouldn't JFK have been about the same age?
It's just reference. Nothing more.
And of anyone can post whatever the want. And I can reply however I want.
Public message board.
