DH surprised me with my own "personal" size watermelon - sweet, juicy, seedless, and YUMMY!!!!! Not at all like the under-ripe ones shipped in from Mexico and South America. Unlike tomatoes, melons do not continue to ripen once they are off the vine.
I like watermelon but I have to be in the mood for it.
My former aunt would bring the rejects from her family farm in south Ga. Anything under 20 pounds was rejected. She got pulled over every single time on her way back. Her car had the loaded drug car look. She always gave the officers a couple after they searched her car.

Last year for the neighborhood 4th of July picnic there was a watermelon eating contest and my kids asked us to participate. I swore I'd never eat watermelon again! But I think now I'm ready.
