Texas Teen Arrested at Infamous Pool Party Was Trying to Calm Manhandled Girl

Adrian Martin attempted to approach the distressed, younger teenager when Police Cpl. David Eric Casebolt of the McKinney Police Department drew his service weapon on the 18-year-old.

Adrian Martin found himself on the other end of McKinney, Texas, Police Cpl. David Eric Casebolt’s service firearm when he attempted to approach a distressed teenage girl who had just been forced to the ground by the same officer.

The 18-year-old, who was later arrested, told WFAA-TV that he was scared when he saw the gun, but that he does not regret attempting to approach and calm the younger girl.

“I shift to the side a little bit to get her to look at me in the face and say, ‘Look: We’re going to call your mom. It’s all right, because she’s shouting, ‘Call my momma! Call my momma!’” Martin explained. That was when video footage taken of the incident Friday shows Casebolt drawing his weapon and the young man starting to run away.

“Were his actions reasonable?” Martin’s attorney Heath Harris asked rhetorically of his client’s response to the distressed girl. “Under the circumstances, I’d say they were reasonable.”

“The only thing that made his actions different from anyone else is the unfortunate fact that he was bumped from behind, which brought him a little closer to the officer,” the lawyer added, saying that the officer overreacted. “But if you watch the video, you see he immediately backtracks and gains distance between the officer.”

Charges against the teenager—which included interfering with police and evading arrest—have since been dropped.

Um, you didn't post all of the story. You know, the part where the girls were beating the crap out of each other. Where the fighting was all over the pool and the yard. There were about ten teens who go kicked out of the pool because of disruptive behavior.

Wish I knew how to post videos because there is a video of this girl and two others literally beating the crap out of each other.

Those kids were doing something wrong, but this cop was out of control. None of the other cops at the scene found it necessary to act like he did.

You're correct Tang.  But now they're trying to paint this cop as a monster.  He wasn't.  He shouldn't have handled it that way and he was wrong.  But those kids were causing a ton of trouble.  It's not about only one or the other contributed.  They both did.

I have watched the short video clip that everyone is all up in arms over.  Did you NOT notice that the officer ONLY took out his gun when he was approached by a group of boys (not young boys i might add) FROM BEHIND?  And that once they, especially that one young man that ran up looking like he was going to actually try to physically intervene, backed up, he holstered his gun?

And from everything I have read from the people who actually LIVED in that community - to include a number of BLACK RESIDENTS, that young lady was not put on the ground until she pulled away from the officer.

I have seen enough interviews from black people about this incident, to include this one.  Not everything is racist or even wrong just because in had to do with minorities.

When you have the video on your screen, highlight the URL then press Control-C to copy,

then paste that URL into the text of your message.

( Control-V is Paste )

You should really watch the whole seven minute video. And I didn't say anything about racism, I just think that this guy hasn't got the right temperament for a police officer. I'm glad he resigned and I hope he chooses to pursue a different line of work.

I did watch the whole 7 minutes.

Again, did he or did he NOT only pull his gun when that one young adult started to rush him?

Most definitely.

He says he wasn't "rush"ing the cop. I'm Sure the cop thought he was, but no one else needed to pull a gun to subdue teenagers.

The cop issued an apology through his attorney this morning for his inappropriate actions.

This is less than 10 miles froM my house. FB has been blowing up over this. It is was really crazy to see the way the national media spun this story. For instance, the way no one mentioned at first that this was at a private pool where all these kids were trespassing.

I still don't think the cop acted appropriately.

I don't think every little decision of a cop should be second-guessed by people who were not in that situation.

Drawing a weapon is not a little decision. And even the cop himself second guessed that decision.

He didn't fire it.  If there were a bunch of teens coming towards me in that situation, I'd probably draw it, too.
