Thanks, SB. The tooth felt funny on Tuesday, called the dentist yesterday and they got me in this morning. I was impressed.

Still have the long haul of getting rid of the infection before the fix. Darmit.

 Czech, and everyone else, please find dentists that have all the latest technology.  An abscessed tooth can take just one appointment to fix. Same with crowns.

He offered to pull it yet today, but said I would hate him because the tissue is so infected right now. I did it once with an infected tooth, never again, the pain was unbearable after the numbing agent wore off.

 Ahh that does happen sometimes, but my understanding is they use the laser technology to get rid of the infection.  But I understand once you've been through that pain you never want  to feel that again.

 No.  It's all digital now.  The dentist uses a laser attached to his/her computer that precisely measures the space and size of the needed crown.  Then he makes the crown and fits it on to your teeth. The whole procedure takes about two hours.  I've had 2 done.

 Well, there's definitely nothing like that around here. Our dentist, who we know from church is on the board of the ADA. He's the best there is around here. He definitely doesn't do that. I had 2 just last year...

Most dentist's in my area have the latest equipment. I have never had a problem with my crowns. And it actually works out cheaper with the new technology.

We did talk about my options. He could save the whole tooth by doing a root canal (at a later date) and then crowning. That would have been fine by me IF it would last 10 to 15 years. He said at my age (60) he could only give it maybe 3 to 5 years and then I would still loose the tooth. It looks like the bone is deteriorating, I guess that's what to much radiation does to your bones.

So, I will have it pulled, let it heal and then he will make a partial plate for me. I'm happy with that.

Gosh, I knew I would have problems later from all the radiation, and I am grateful to be alive yet. But, this stinks.

Czech, sorry about your tooth. Pain is pain and it sucks no matter where it is. It disrupts your whole body system.

 That's a good decision.  If the bone is going, just pull it.
