Will you get a lot of injuries from drunk people doing stupid things?

For the second year in a row, I will be riding in a convertible in the Lion's Club 4th of July Parade. Last year was SO much fun! Home-town America at its finest!

DS2 will be driving & Itty bitty will be there too.

Now I just need to order perfect weather...

Yep. Cuts from oyster beds and boat propellers. Broken bones from falls. BBQ burns. Tummy issues from eating way too much (not so fun if we have to take it out, yuck!). Plus all the normal every day emergencies.

I'd rather see bad cuts and breaks than abscesses and other issues that come from just not taking care of oneself. Seriously people, if your south side starts feeling icky don't wait to see a doctor. It can get really bad really fast and then you start losing tissue.

If the pool is filled, we'll have a cookout. If not, going to the parents and cook there.

I have hot dogs, I have a microwave for them,

I will be watering my roof if the weather is dry.

Well, I was going to go swimming with DS and a friend while DH was working. Now, it's looking like I will be parked on the couch with my ankle up.

Relaxing at home. Plenty of neighbors who shoot off fireworks that we don't need to go anywhere. Probably cook on the grill, burgers, steak, chicken, who knows. Corn on the cob if it looks good.

I would LOVE to.  DH isn't going to be back for awhile.  I think I may just order pizza or something and be done with it.  We just got three major new restaurants that are only downtown open a chain here.  Might do one of them.

Went to a chain restaurant on the 4th last year, never again.  They are not staffed for being busy and can't handle anything but a handful of customers at a time.

I'll be at a party on Cape Cod. But we have to get home before the fireworks start. Pooch gets absolutely frantic. We need to take him down cellar and turn the music up full-blast or he will dig the floors up upstairs.

Someone has been shooting off fireworks for a few nights now.

So glad my dogs are not phased by it.

Sister and her family will be here. Friends of Sister's are coming. Aunt and uncle will be here. We will grill out, hang out by the pool and set off fireworks. If the weather holds. I'm not sure what the rain plans are.

There's a really super good pizza place downtown and we just got one here.  For some reason the theme of the restaurant is a firehouse.  They have real antique trucks outside.  They're offering gluten free pizza now too.

And our dogs are terribly afraid of the fireworks.

You might consider calling them today, to make sure what hours they will be open on July 4th.

Will probably visit with my senior friends in the morning.  After that, no other plans.  It's just a regular Saturday for me.  Will watch some fireworks show on the telly rather than try to fight the crowds at the beach to watch the annual fireworks here.  People get really nasty and territorial about their "reserved space" (first come, first served) on the beach and in the park.   Forbid someone should wander into their space trying to get a view of the fireworks.  Not worth the threats or rude remarks thrown my way or the hassle.  I rarely celebrate most holidays since it is just me.

To those who are celebrating with family and friends, I hope you have a wonderful time!

I will try to watch fireworks from my deck. The trees in the woods behind my house have grown since I first moved in & last year they blocked most of the view. So we'll see.

I haven't been to the public shows in years. Too hot & too crowded. No fun for me.

 That's amazing! congrats!

I miss our house in Indiana where we could see the fireworks from the front yard. And I miss the job I had in Ohio where I got fireworks for free! Lol

We will probably spend the day in the cities at some of the parks and festivities there. We haven't done the 4th in a big city before. BIL/SIL and niece and nephew will still be here and we are hoping they are up for some fun!

If we stand at the end of our driveway we can see Vienna's fireworks..the ones that go up high enough anyway. This year we went to PA and bought some of the good ones to light. The ones they sell around here aren't that good. The showers go up maybe 3 feet and last 15 seconds. The ones we bought should go up 15 feet and last 2-3 minutes. They have bigger ones, too, but we thought we'd start with these this year.

Where did you buy them, if you don't mind me asking? I used to work for one of the 2 largest fireworks companies in the U.S. and I am still partial 😉

We used to do that back in our 20s.  We'd just zip up 15 until we crossed the line.  There was a big place just across the border.  Sorry MM I don't remember the name.  Then later I had a friend who ran seasonal stands.  When he'd order the fireworks he'd take orders from friends for the good stuff.  He didn't sell it to us we paid for it when he ordered straight from wherever he got his stuff.

I heard Phantom were the best.

The ones we got at Keystone were expensive, too. We only bought 6 cones, and it came to over $100.

If I remember correctly they can only sell to out of state people.  I remember having to fill out paperwork with my name & address proving I was from out of state.  That was a while back.  It may be different now.

Yes, we had to fill out forms at Keystone before we were granted admission. We are in the system now, and have a membership card, so we're good for future visits. I don't know about Phantom. I see from their website that they have a retail partner, a Giant Grocery store, near my office. MM, maybe you know...does this mean I can buy the good stuff at Giant?

That's the law in Pennsylvania, yes.

Phantom's fireworks are actually really well made, if that's a thing. Lol. Hardly any are duds. One of the owners of the company regularly travels to China to the manufacturer and inspects the factory.

It is a privately owned company and the owners are 2 brothers. They treat their employees really well. When I worked there, on Secretary's Day (or whatever they call it now) they came to each person's desk with a rose and thanked them for their work. It was sweet. During the busy season when we would be there 12-15 hours a day, they would cater in lunch for us.

Do they last a long time and shoot up higher than 6 feet? Are they sold at the retail partners listed? If so, I have some shopping to do!

You will probably only be able to get small assortments at the grocery store. The smaller assortments don't have the "good stuff" in them. They tend to be packed with bottle rockets, Roman candles and firecrackers. The bigger assortments are better. But if you want to let the kids light them themselves, the smaller assortments are perfect.

Fireworks are are a lot safer than people think. People that get hurt with them tend to be drunk, stupid, or both.

Trivia: the Boston bombers used Phantom Fireworks in their terrorist attacks.

Oh heck yeah! But you probably won't be able to get the good ones anywhere other than one of their showrooms. They also have an online store fireworks.com. There are some restrictions on where they can ship, but the website tells you if they can ship to you or not.

No problem! I know WAY more about fireworks than I should. When I worked there, we got a big assortment for free and we could upgrade and pay the wholesale cost if we wanted to. I was a popular July 4th picnic guest while I worked there. Everyone would invite me and tell me to "feel free to bring some fireworks with you!"  The actual job I had was boring as hell though. Lol I was done everyday by 10:30am and had to "look busy" until 5!

You know you will only get the VA approved stuff like sparklers.  But I guess your boys still like sparklers.  They probably have the little cones too.

Yeah, they love them. I have to separate them when they use them though. Last year they tried to use them like swords against each other.
