The parent company of my business offers same sex benefits and have for the past 5 years. They released a memo today that says that same sex coupled claiming benefits must be legally married in 6 months or their partners would be dropped (new enrollment period is Jan 1).
All hell has broken lose. They are going nuts, saying that companies cannot demand that they get married.
Well, they don't HAVE to, but the spouse will lose benefits.
I'm just sitting back laughing...lol!

See it isn't equality they want. It's special treatment.

I get confused about your job. I hope you do not mind me asking, but I thought you worked at a place that required employees to sign an agreement live by Christian values ?
I have a question. DS is now covered by his DGF's policy due to being in a long term partnership (they have a son together). Would they be forced to get married under the new rules IF they worked for your company?
This whole gay rights thing has "begotten" all kinds of new "colors", IMHO.
I think MOST of the new problems were not foreseen by the court either.

Faith isn't something that keeps bad things from happening. Faith is what helps us get through bad things when they do happen.

Many companies did this years ago when Mass ruled on same sex marriage. Drove people nuts, ironic.

The argument for covering domestic partners were because they could not legally marry and thus, receive those benefits. Now that marriage is an option, that argument carries no weight.

I agree. I'm on the side of Ohfour's company. They extended the insurance because cay couples couldn't get married. Now that they can, they are no different from straight couples that aren't married. Now it's their choice to not be married and forgo all the marriage benefits, or to be married and receive the benefits of marriage.
I do think that anyone that was legally joined in a civil union since marriage was not an option, that their legal civil union should automatically convert to legal marriage, but that's probably an issue for another time.

Welcome to the world of everyone is "equal".
