Dylann Roof’s sister asks for donations to pay for wedding, later deletes donation web page



 

The sister of the man accused of killing nine people on June 17 at Emanuel AME Church in Charleston has launched an online campaign to raise money to pay for her wedding and honeymoon after a June ceremony was cancelled following the massacre, according to the Post and Courier.

Amber Roof, sister of Dylann, started a Go Fund Me page and is asking for $5,000 to "cover lost wedding costs, to pay bills, and to send us on our dream honeymoon." She also pledged to donate 10 percent of the money raised to Emanuel AME Church.

As of 11:50 a.m. this morning, $1,545 had been pledged. However, Roof's Go Fund Me and Facebook pages were later deleted.

She and her fiance were to be married June 21, four days after her brother, 21-year-old Dylann Roof, allegedly gunned down nine worshippers attending a Bible study at the historic black church, allegedly in an attempt to start a race war. He is being held without bail in the Charleston County jail and faces nine counts of murder.

On her page, Amber Roof wrote that her wedding was supposed to be "the day every girl dreams of," with the perfect venue and vows ready to be read.

"Our day was the exact opposite. Our wedding day was full of sorrow, pain, and shame, tainted by the actions of one man,” she later stated.

Roof said that she and her fiance cancelled the wedding "to protect our family and mourn the lives of those lost" but they now want another chance at happiness

Very poor taste. Yeah, she had nothing to do with the shootings, but she is after all, his sister. She should have left it alone. These Go Fund me pages are getting ridiculous and really biased people even against legit fundraisers. They are more and more like a money grab.
