I work with a man who is always very energetic and mentally alert. He's about 50ish. He said he drinks 15-20 cups of coffee a day. I was like WTF?! I can't imagine drinking that much in a week!
THAT is a lot of coffee. My DH drinks a lot but not near that much.

LOL That's funny. I don't know, some people are just peppy.

I still have yet to have had my first cup of coffee. I don't like the taste but I do like the smell. And I do like coffee ice cream. DH has two cups in the morning and one after dinner.
If I have caffeine, it is usually in the form of either Diet Coke or Diet Dr Pepper.
I drink 15-20 cups (like measuring cup '1 cup' - maybe 10 mugs). It doesn't give me energy or really enhance alertness. It just keeps my eyes open . . .
Back in the day before I was married I would go to the same Starbucks. They all knew me. One day one of the little baristas made me a mocha with ten shots of espresso. My heart was bouncing around.

I drink it every now and then. I have to really want it.

Normally I only drink decaf (yes, I know it is NOT coffee, etc. etc.) but when we go out to eat I will have a cup of coffee. And not sleep that night...
I drink 1-2 cups of coffee maybe twice a year or so. If we happen to be out for breakfast I will order coffee. And maybe once a summer I will get a mocha frappacino.
I drink tea way more often, but I'm in the process of switching to decaf because even a couple mugs of black tea in the morning will keep me from sleeping that night.
I detest coffee. I love the smell and hate the taste.
I like chai lattes. They have a ton of sugar in them though. If you want it made at Starbucks without sugar they have to brew a tea bag and it's a PITA.
Daily, I like my caffeine from Cokes. But I am trying to cut back.

I make 8 cups when I get up which is really 4 real cups, don't drink it all, I have about 2 mug fulls while getting ready in the morning for work. Pour the rest in a commuter mug and sip it on the way to work. I waste a lot of coffee.

I voted other. I do not drink coffee, nor do I drink any kind of soda. My only sources of caffeine are Earl Grey tea (iced) and No-Doz caplets. I do not care for the taste of coffee.
When I was studying for the bar I received an espresso machine for Christmas. I was trying all kinds of new things with it, and drinking more than I should have, apparently. My friend was doing the same thing. Her husband was a doctor. When we told him we were having headaches and feeling weird, he laughed and said lay off the coffee! Ever since then, I have made sure I limit my intake.

RE: the headaches, caffeine is an addictive drug, and while it may give you energy if you use it periodically, like other addictive drugs, the desired effect will fade and you need it to keep the headaches away. The guy you work with is probably just energetic, or taking speed.
