You must have missed the "s" at the end of the word "churches" when I said "In going to churches, I was seeking a place to be with others in getting closer to God."
I am well aware that there is more than just one church. Thank you for clearing that up for everyone though.
Husker, do you not see a common theme among people who stopped going? You can say, oh, those people who quit are anti social or whatever. But, the reality is that a lot of churches are very cliquish. Most people who initially go to church are seeking God and also seeking to develop meaningful relationships with other Christians. But, if instead you don't find that, you start to think, why get up in the morning to go worship with a bunch of relative strangers?
well, we've never really gone to church for fellowship per se--more to hear the Word, read the Bible, experience the living faith for ourselves--have always believed that what you bring is much more important than what may or may not be there

I find a lot of people get pissed off over "preferences". They like things a certain way, and are resistant to change. But, going to church is about worshipping God and people just need to stop getting pissy about the little crap that doesn't matter.

How exactly do you prove you were at church? It's not like they stamp your hand.
On Sundays you bring in a church bulletin. On Wednesdays, it usually the honor system. I mean really, you COULD go by a church and pick up a bulletin, but around here, church attendance is pretty much the norm...

On the contrary, it is often the "pissy" ones creating the problems. Who needs it?

LOL, when I was in rehab (out patient) church would count as 1 AA meeting. I did just go by & swipe a bulletin to take to my counselor. He caught on & asked me what the All Saint's Day (I think - it was some High Holy Day for Catholics) service was about. I was pretty clueless. He made me study the Bible & write a report on it.

Then people get pissy in return instead of turning the other cheek.

I love my church too. They are THE MOST welcoming and eclectic people I've ever known. I've never left there not feeling like I was shining from the inside...

I love my Church. I haven't met a pissy person there yet.
Maybe you're all pissy and that's why you get along so well!
Then maybe you need to get a little pissy so you can find a good Church...lol. No seriously there is one old lady who sings way too loud but that would be my biggest complaint.

That is amazing. I hope you know how lucky you are. I haven't felt that way at a church since I was 5.
There are a lot of churches that don't want new ideas. They don't want new members. The people who attend are more concerned about their golf game afterwards and their "groups" are just an excuse to gather and gossip. It's hard to find a place where people are there for the right reasons. Once a church gets infected with a poisonous group of people it can be impossible to get rid of them. A lot of communities don't have a lot of choices either as far as churches go.

Thank you. We are really lucky to have the church that we do. It's quite overwhelming at first.
Often, on the way home, G and I don't even talk. We just get in the car and drive home. It's like we don't want to spoil the moment...there's really nothing to say that could compete with the peace and joy that we feel when we leave there. I wish everyone could just come to my church once. I don't even have the right words to describe it...

sure, every church--or any group of people probably have those few you may not get along with. However, to say it is 100% of the people in 100% of the churches of EVERY denomination is just flat out untrue.
if you've been to a dozen churches (or even three or four) of various denominations and cant find even one that you can get along in--then what is the common denominator? Sorry, but its you.
Now, if you don't want to go to church--don't go. No skin off my nose--but at least be honest about why you don't--and it has nothing to do with other people. You just don't feel like going.

Also, I've been a member of 5 different churches in my lifetime--and never had trouble forging relationships in any of them. I've been a church officer in three of them. I've also worshipped in easily another several dozen churches for various reasons.

Ah, the individual must bear responsibility for their dislike after attending (multiple) churches and finding ALL of them lacking. Husker, you are expecting way to much on that one.
But, I agree with you.

Faith isn't something that keeps bad things from happening. Faith is what helps us get through bad things when they do happen.
I was raised in a Christian home. Had many bad experiences with Church growing up and got disillusioned. I found a Church in 2011, I think it was, and felt at home for awhile. Got connected, got baptized, became a member. Then an incident happened and it shook me to my core so I left. Have now found another Church that feels like home and have been attending regularly.
I officially have spent way too much time on this board. I dreamed last night that I joined a church. I even wore panty hose in the dream. It was a strange dream.

They have their freedom. Just don't expect us to accept it. They won't be thrown in jail, but they will be ostracized. You don't get it do you? Poor you...

I get that people who worship differently than you are run out of town. I get that much.

You've been pretty bitchy to me twice already; here and on the Tuesday thread. Do you do this to all the new members or just the Canadian ones?
