No, you can't. And.....?

DNA makes the gender.  That is basic biology.  That is a fact.

And yet there are people who are born both and given one gender or the other by surgical means.  They may be raised female physically but the DNA is male.

There are also chromosomal issues where a person is XXY or XXX or XYY.  Have we done enough research to know, for sure, that this is not a chromosomal factor?

For most people, no, this is not a factor.

Oh noes! Not a childish, passive-aggressive meme!!  Well, you win the interwebz! Can't argue with that!

AGAIN, gender dysphoria is not the same as body dysmorphia. Look it up. Oh, you don't have to, what with being smarter than the majority of the medical community.

You just don't like or understand gays and trans people.  Oh well, you know what they say...

I'm taking leave of this thread before some of you go blind altogether.

And that's the hypocritical liberal mantra.  Everyone must agree with their narrow world view or they get called hateful or bigot or some other such nonsense term.  They can't stand disagreement.

I know you are "new" here. So you don't know who or what I know and am living with.

It is a mental issue. NOT a medical issue.

Forget the articles and other stuff. Here is the official DSM statement on it.

In the upcoming fifth edition of the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders (DSM-5),
people whose gender at birth is contrary to the one they identify with will be diagnosed with gender
dysphoria. This diagnosis is a revision of DSM-IV’s criteria for gender identity disorder and is intended
to better characterize the experiences of affected children, adolescents, and adults.

DSM not only determines how mental disorders are defined and diagnosed, it also impacts how people
see themselves and how we see each other. While diagnostic terms facilitate clinical care and access to
insurance coverage that supports mental health, these terms can also have a stigmatizing effect.

DSM-5 aims to avoid stigma and ensure clinical care for individuals who see and feel themselves to be a
different gender than their assigned gender. It replaces the diagnostic name “gender identity disorder”
with “gender dysphoria,” as well as makes other important clarifications in the criteria. It is important
to note that gender nonconformity is not in itself a mental disorder. The critical element of gender dysphoria
is the presence of clinically significant distress associated with the condition.

Where is the rest of that statement?  The part where they will still classify it as a disorder if people want to receive treatment for it?

Along these lines...

Have you seen previews for the show, I Am Jazz?

It about a 14 year old boy that lives as a girl. She is dumbfounded and hurt that all of her girlfriends are being flirted with and being asked to dances, but they boys won't even talk to her. Dead serious...

Honey, you are a boy. You can wear a dress and grow your hair long, but you are a boy. And the vast majority of boys are not homosexual. They don't want to make out with another boy. If you are hurting now, well, it's not going to get any better. Your parents coddled your misguided emotions. They are 100% to blame for this...

Well, personally I have a different view. I think that these kids feel that from a very early age, like 2 or 3. This isn't something that just comes about when they are teenagers. As soon as kids are self aware, they know if they are a boy or a girl and they know if others are a boy or a girl.

BS.  Lots of kids play dress up when they are little.  many little boys put on a dress, have a big sister or aunt put make-up on them, and pretend they are girls.  It's called little kids playing make-believe.

my niece said she was a puppy for more than a week--it doesn't mean we should put her on a leash and walk her, or feed her puppy chow.

You don't seem to understand my point.  Kids KNOW what gender they are.  They self identify.  No amount of play dressing up would convince my son that he is a girl and nor my daughter a boy.

No, it isn't what they are saying.  Kids adamantly KNOW to their core what gender they are.  These kids do not.  Big difference.

I've known a lot of drag queens. They know they are men. They like to play the part of a woman at times. I know who is so good at it, he is two totally different people. It's sometimes scary how polar opposite he can be.

But these people who want to physically remove body parts, create parts, that's not a healthy mindset.

As for Jenner, he is a drag queen.

Even my gay BIL and his partner dislike the gay guys that act all girly and call each other girl names. And they hate the use of the term wife for the more feminine one. They are gay men, not men that want to be women. It's a big deal with them and the group the run with...

DH used to work on the fire department with a guy who did drag queen stuff.  These men weren't gay.  It was a hobby.  Just like fishing or hunting.  His friend eventually had to quit the fire department because he was making more money with the pageants than he was at the fire department.  Now he exclusively sets up pageants and makes in the three digits salary.  But it's just like acting for these guys.  It doesn't make them women any more than the toddlers who dress up and compete don't become adults by putting on all the garb and prancing around.

It's about split down the middle with the ones I know.

I know gay guys who are more manly than straight men and straight guys who are so girly I swear they get cramps.

A drag queen isn't always gay.

LOL! Had one fool my ex once.

At a party. Ex was just getting to meet my friends. Teri/Terence was there as Teri. We were all dancing. I went out to smoke and ex was dancing with Teri.

I was watching with another friend laughing our butts off. Ex was getting into some serious grinding with Teri.

Next day, ex walked in on Teri in the bathroom.

It was hilarious.
