A two-year-old Pasco County boy is being treated in the hospital after his foot was severed by a lawn mower.

The toddler, identified locally as 'Bean', ran into the riding lawnmower that his mother Tiffany Collins was driving early Saturday, emergency service officials said.

The boy's leg got caught under the mower and was severed below the knee.

Two-year-old 'Bean' (pictured right) reportedly ran into the riding lawnmower that his mother Tiffany Collins (pictured left) was driving early Saturday

The Tampa Tribune noted that authorities have not publicly named the mother and her son.

But WTSP, citing family friends, identified Tiffany Collins and her son 'Bean' as being involved in the incident on Orange Drive before 11am.

Doug Tobin, a spokesman for the county, told Patch.com of the mother: 'She attempted to shut off the mower, but couldn't stop the mower in time.

'As the boy approached the lawnmower he fell and his leg fell under the mower.

He also told the news outlet: 'Pasco Fire Rescue packed the amputated leg on ice and the boy was trauma alerted to a Tampa area hospital.'

The Tampa Tribune identified the hospital that the boy was taken to as Tampa General Hospital.

Collins' Facebook profile says she works at a Tampa lawn maintenance company.

I never, ever allow my kids outside when DH or anyone is mowing.

Me either, for reasons such as this. Still, it's a tragic accident.

Yeah, when DD was young I hired a lawn service to mow the lawn because I couldn't and keep her safe at the same time.

I worked with a woman whose niece had a prosthetic leg because of this exact reason.

I can't find fault here. This is one of those split second things. This isn't leaving the kid in a hot car to bake for hours.

She was busy mowing, thought he was somewhere else, and by the time she saw him and began to process that she needed to shut the mower down--she didn't have time to do so.

Even for the person who was supposed to be watching him--things happen in an instant. Maybe they were cooking lunch, too. Maybe they went to the bathroom. Unless we are going to keep kids on leashes, once in a while a tragedy such as this can happen.

At least the child lived, and the article doesn't say, but maybe they even saved his leg.

Well, I could agree with you--but then we'd both be wrong.

Oh I don't find fault with her either.  It's just something I thought about when DD was little and knew I couldn't mow the lawn or clear the snow and keep her safe at the same time so I hired someone to do the work.  This poor woman and the child!  I'm glad he was injured and not killed.

That's a horrible accident.

That mom will never forgive herself.
