Peter Alliss is known by golf fans both in the United Kingdom and United States. On the first two rounds of the Open Championship, Alliss made his annual visit on ESPN for a few hours before he went back to his regular job, calling the event on BBC One and Two.
As Zach Johnson was about to make the putt to win the Open on Monday, Alliss saw the golfer's wife Kim on BBC’s camera and said, “She is probably thinking – ‘if this goes in I get a new kitchen.’”
The remark led to some Twitter outrage, with people calling the comment sexist. The BBC apologized the following day:
“Peter made a light-hearted comment which was inappropriate and we apologise if anyone was offended.”
It was the second controversy for Alliss during this year’s tournament. On Saturday when amateur Paul Dunne hugged his mother following his round, Alliss said, “Ah, that must be mum. Perhaps he likes older women. I don’t know but I hope I got the right one.”

I can explain it to you, but I can't understand it for you.
"She is probably thinking – ‘if this goes in I get a new kitchen."
Could totally be misconstrued.

Oh for crying out loud! That kind of line has been used practically forever and no one ever misconstrued it before - it's humor! Who might be offended, Home Depot because he's a Lowe's customer? Geez...
