Why can't they make swim SHIRTS for kids? I mean, yeah , I see some shirts at the beach but a lot of pools won't let you wear anything. When I was a kid, my mom made us wear white tshirts into the pool. That was the only thing allowed but at least that was allowed. Doesn't it make sense to have some type of swim shirt or something that kids can wear nowadays with all the skin cancer and so forth?
Kids in our area wear rashguards. My #1 wears one, but #2 likes to bare his chest.
Both DD's wore rash guard shirts as well. It's just easier.
And NJN, I don't think you are a terrible mom at all. You tried. You actually applied the sunscreen! Who knew it expired?! I didn't. My MIL could not be bothered to apply sunscreen to my DH once all day. She was too busy boinking any man who showed interest. She was guilty of neglect. You were not.

Thanks! I did try.

Well, if they shut down the daycare then there's nothing to sue for... Can't get blood from a turnip. Maybe they're not as dumb as people think.

They don't exactly strike me as the responsible type so yeah, good luck with that.

Honestly, why would any daycare think it is a "good idea" to take a gaggle of kids to a water park? Have we not heard enough stories about children drowning in wave pools and so forth? There is no way I would allow my young child to go to any of these places with daycare. Sorry, but they are not trained in the same way that school teachers are and they dont' have the same oversights for a field trip as the schools do.

Gaggle. Such a fun word. Not used often enough, IMO.

I can explain it to you, but I can't understand it for you.

Again, this is not a water park. It's a splash pad. You can't drown...

OK, good point. And, that would seem safer. But, nowadays too many things can happen. Tripping and bashing your head on the concrete and what not. And, transporting kids and so forth and trying to keep an eye on them all. If they would have sunscreened them and it washed off and they got a bit of burn, nobody would have been bothered. But, they should have had some forethought as to how long little kids can be out in the sun.
My kids stayed at an in home daycare. There were about 5 "centers" in our neighborhood. They often did "field trips" together. One was to a lake beach. Well, the daughter of the lady that watched my kids stepped on a rather large piece of glass. She had to have 16 stitches. She said, " I know this sounds horrible, but I'm glad is was my daughter instead of one of your kids". I know exactly how she felt...

Gaga, do you know what it's like having a whole daycare of school age kids cooped up in the gym all day? It's probably more dangerous than going on outings. They fight. And by fight I mean they bite and hit and kick. I worked daycare and two of my kids have too. And my kids were in daycare. They do activities to keep the kids occupied. When my kids were in daycare they went to the water park with the daycare once or twice a summer. You know the water park with wave pools and slides and the actual dangerous rides. But I loved the daycare they were in at the time and I trusted them. It wasn't an issue. Anything I asked of them they did. I remember providing sunscreen for my kids and the daycare putting it on. It was never an issue. I just don't want all daycare's to be painted with a broad brush. My kids had a lot of fun in that daycare in the summer. They got to do things I would never have been able to do with them. They went to the dollar movies, swam (both at the water park and community pool), went to the library, and did a lot of activities. They usually only went to the water park and Six Flags once during the summer though because it was expensive.

Yes, and sometimes accidents happen and they can't be avoided. You have to look at each situation and see if it could have been prevented. The OP could DEFINITELY have been prevented so that's a fail on the daycare's fault.

I think herding kids would be a tough job all the way around. I couldn't do it!
