Her love flew off to WWII and was never seen again — 70 years later, a knock on the door brought it all back.

More than 70 years ago, Leona Sharp watched as her first love wiggled the wings of his B-17 as he flew over her house on his way to fight in World War II.

It was the last time she ever saw Bob Kramer.

70 years later, Bill Poray, Fairport, N.Y.’s local historian, stumbled upon home movies from the 1930s in an attic and, remarkably, was able to track down the 96-year-old woman.

According to CBS News, Poray found a box with Kramer’s name on it labeled “Kodachrome experiment” in an attic and then watched the film inside.

“Yeah, I was intrigued. So I took the projector, I took the films and I started to watch,” he told Steve Hartman. “And I loved what I saw. I saw scenes of our community and they were in color!”

Poray saw that the couple was clearly in love and decided to look into their story further.

He discovered that the man in the film was Bob Kramer and the woman was his high school sweetheart, Leona Sharp.

Poray knew that if either of them were alive they’d be in their nineties. The only address he could find belonged to Sharp and one day he knocked on her door.

“A woman came to the door. She opened the door 3 inches. And I told her we had these films. And the door opened a little wider. And then she said wait and she disappeared,” he said. “She came back about a minute later holding her wedding picture. And she said come in.”

Leona Sharp told CBS that she and Bob Kramer got married right after he joined the Air Force and that he left only a few days later. She watched his departure and said that he “he wiggled the wings to salute us and then he was off.”

Kramer was never seen or heard from again, but the emergence of these videos had all the youthful memories of halcyon days flooding back.

Sharp did marry again, but if you watch how she reacts when sees her first love story play out seven decades after the fact, you may get a little misty-eyed.
