Billionaire presidential candidate Donald Trump announced a truce with Fox News Channel Monday via Twitter after a chat with the network's boss
'Roger Ailes just called. He is a great guy & assures me that "Trump" will be treated fairly on @FoxNews. His word is always good!' he tweeted
Ailes said that he and Trump 'discussed our concerns, and I again expressed my confidence in Megyn Kelly ... We had a blunt but cordial conversation and the air has been cleared'
Monday morning Trump insisted Fox anchor Megyn Kelly owed him an apology for asking debate questions about his treatment of women
By nightfall she was telling her own audience that there will be no mea culpa: 'I have decided not to respond ... I certainly will not apologize for doing good journalism'
The Donald will appear on 'Fox & Friends' and 'Hannity' on Tuesday

Donald Trump and the president of the Fox News Channel have called a truce, judging from a tweet the billionaire blasted out late Monday morning, following more than four days of post-debate wrangling over how the network's anchors treated him last Thursday.
'Roger Ailes just called,' Trump tweeted. 'He is a great guy & assures me that "Trump" will be treated fairly on @FoxNews. His word is always good!'
Aies told DailyMail.com that 'Donald Trump and I spoke today. We discussed our concerns, and I again expressed my confidence in Megyn Kelly. She is a brilliant journalist and I support her 100 percent.'
'I assured him that we will continue to cover this campaign with fairness & balance. We had a blunt but cordial conversation and the air has been cleared.'
The end to hostilities between the real estate tycoon and the biggest name in cable news came just hours after Trump said on a rival network that debate co-moderator Megyn Kelly owed him an apology for the questions she asked him during the Cleveland, Ohio debate.
Kelly said on her own show Monday evening that it's not going to happen.

'Mr. Trump did interviews over the weekend that attacked me personally,' Kelly said at the beginning of her show 'The Kelly File.'

Fox News anchor Megyn Kelly refused to apologize Monday night at the top of her nightly show. (Scroll down for video.) Here's what she said:
'You may have heard that there was a dustup involving yours truly and presidential contender Donald Trump.
'Mr. Trump was upset with a question I asked him at the debate last week about his electability, and specifically comments he has made in the past about women.
'A few words on that: Apparently Mr. Trump thought the question I asked was unfair, and felt I was attacking him. I felt he was asked a tough but fair question. We agree to disagree.
'Mr. Trump did interviews over the weekend that attacked me personally. I've decided not to respond.
'Mr. Trump is an interesting man who has captured the attention of the electorate. That's why he's leading in the polls. Trump, who is the front-runner, will not apologize. And I certainly will not apologize for doing good journalism.
'So I'll continue doing my job without fear or favor. And Mr. Trump, I expect, will continue with what has been a successful campaign thus far.
'This is a tough business, and it's time to move forward.'
'I have decided not to respond,' she added.
'Trump, who is the front-runner, will not apologize,' she declared.
'And I certainly will not apologize for doing good journalism.'
On Sunday Trump gave ratings-popping phone interviews to every major network with a weekend political talk show – except Fox.
He tweeted: 'It amazes me that other networks seem to treat me so much better than @FoxNews,' he tweeted hours later. 'I brought them the biggest ratings in history [in the debate], & I get zip!'
The network put out the word over the weekend that 'Fox News Sunday' doesn't do telephone interviews with anyone, and was working on a longer in-person sitdown with Trump for a future date.
Instead, 'Fox & Friends' and 'Hannity' will get The Donald for interviews on Tuesday, a network source said Monday night.
Trump had responded to calls for his head after a weekend of controversy by saying on MSNBC's 'Morning Joe' program that Kelly 'should really be apologizing to me' for treating him like a carnival act during Thursday's blockbuster prime-time debate.
His GOP rivals hammered him on Saturday and Sunday for what they said is a pattern of callousness toward women, highlighted by a CNN interview comment widely interpreted to be a derisive jab at Kelly's menstrual cycle.
But Trump gave his critics the back of his hand on Monday, telling MSNBC's audience that he's riding high in the latest polls and never had a problem feuding with Fox News, the highest rated cable network.

WHO'S SORRY NOW? Trump insisted Monday morning that Megyn Kelly (pictured) owed him an apology for asking 'inappropriate questions' during Thursday night's debate
'The fact is that I think I don't get treated well by Fox, and that's all right because look what happens,' Trump said hours before declaring a cease-fire on Twitter.
'I don't understand it myself. I mean, I have double-digit leads in every poll.'

Fox News Channel presdient Roger Ailes, on his phone call Monday with Donald Trump
Trump was frustrated on Thursday by a debate that made his strategy and behavior, not his political positions, the focus.
After an opening salvo painted him into a corner on the possibility of a third-party run, Kelly pounced on the real estate tycoon by reading context-free insults he had flung at famous women with whom he was feuding at the time.
Among the epithets Kelly aired before a TV audience of 24 million were 'fat pigs,' 'dogs' and 'disgusting animals.'
On Monday Trump vented about 'the horrible questions I was being asked.'
'They didn't ask me about jobs, they didn't ask me about the economy,' he said.
The tension ramped up following a Friday CNN interview where Trump called Kelly's questions 'ridiculous' 'off-base.'
'You could see there was blood coming out of her eyes,' he told interviewer Don Lemon, 'blood coming out of her – wherever.'

DEFIANT: Trump is still the leading Republican presidential candidate, inching upward in polls every time his inflammatory comments make news
That comment got Trump banned from the conservative RedState Gathering event in Atlanta where he was scheduled to speak on Saturday. He later insisted it wasn't a reference to her monthly period making her combative, and that he meant to suggest she had blood coming out of her nose.
But with figurative blood in the water, Republican consultants and talking heads accustomed to defending more traditional candidates said during the weekend that The Donald had signed his own political death warrant.
'He can't grow. He has condemned himself to be a protest candidate, not a serious candidate for the Republican nomination, Alex Castellanos, a veteran GOP strategist, told The Washington Post.
'That means we now move forward to a more normal debate.'
And Katie Packer Gage, a Republican strategist who co-founded a firm that counsels candidates on how to appeal to women, told the Post that the Trump juggernaut could doom the GOP in 2016.
'People see this as a blustery, bullying circus act,' she said. 'The longer it goes on, the more it becomes part of the GOP narrative.'
With the furor dying down to its embers on Monday, Trump seemed content to be on top. And, in typically Trumpian fashion, vowed he wouldn't heed calls from other candidates for an apology.

KILLER NIGHT: Kelly (center) hammered The Donald with opening questions about his treatment of women
'A lot of good things are happening, so maybe I should just leave it the way it is,' Trump mused.
'The fact [is] she asked me a very inappropriate question. She asked – she should really be apologizing to me, if you want to know the truth.'
Trump placed first with support from 23 per cent in a survey of Republican primary voters conducted during the 24 hours following Thursday's debate in Cleveland, Ohio.
While it's not a traditional opinion poll – NBC News and the University of Pennsylvania used the online Survey Monkey platform to take their sample – analysts put its margin of error at a respectable 3.4 per cent.
The survey is raising eyebrows because Texas Sen. Ted Cruz and retired neurosurgeon Ben Carson placed second and third, with 13 and 11 per cent respectively, although neither was widely cited as a standout star following the 10-candidate smackdown in prime time.
Trump was quick to claim victory.
Trump defends 'blood' comment about Megyn Kelly
'Despite what you said earlier in the morning, Joe,' he told co-host Joe Scarborough, 'every poll – virtually every poll – said that I won the debate. You said I didn't win, I didn't do well, and I don't understand how you can say that.'
Real data on post-debate voter reactions were hard to come by, though. While the influential Drudge Report touted a massive online poll that declared Trump the runaway conqueror, that was based on a platform where readers could vote more than once.
And a touch-tone phone poll conducted by Gravis Marketing during the 24 hours following the debate awarded the blue ribbon to Carson.
The NBC/Survey Monkey survey found that 18 per cent of Republicans thought Trump won the 9:00 p.m. main event, more than his nine competitors, but former tech CEO Carly Fiorina bested him with 22 per cent despite being relegated to a 5:00 p.m. debate that far fewer Americans saw
How long is this nonsense going to drag on? I would think a candidate would be more concerned about telling us what he or she is going to do to solve some of the problems of the country instead of this. No, Kelly should not apologize for anything.
The funny thing is, he had every opportunity to talk about those things he wanted to talk about. He CHOSE to use his time attacking her for asking pertinent questions. He could have said "instead of digging in to why I said those things, I want to tell you how my jobs policies will help women in the workplace" or whatever. He CHOSE not to use his time talking about those things though. Don't blame her for that. Candidates frequently answer questions with what THEY want to talk about instead of what was asked.

He's supposed to be releasing his policy proposals sometime this week. And I agree that Kelly shouldn't apologize. It would make her look like a victim and that is something she does not want.
He is still surging in the polls. Perhaps people are just sick and tired of the same old politicians.
I sure am. But I am looking for someone who treats the process with the dignity and respect it deserves. If he can't handle some difficult questions from a news reporter who shares his ideology how is he going to handle a world power who does NOT share his ideology - and that world leader may have a finger on the button. News reporters don't.
I appreciate his "say anything" attitude. But I don't think he is taking the process seriously. He needed to answer her questions.

Ok, but why is her 'process" the right one? It's the process that has been followed for a long time, and our political system has been screwed up for a long time. Perhaps it is time to change that process.

Kelley started the debate off on the wrong foot with Trump. Maybe if her first questions were not about his dispute with Rosie O'Donnel, he would have taken her more seriously.

I agree. Fox set the tone with that one. I think it may have been a fair question... that came later in the debate. But not right out of the gate.
I agree that Kelly's questions were idiotic. I didn't like them. I thought they were stupid questions. He should have just brushed on by and then started talking about what he plans to do if he was Potus and not take the bait. But, the fact that he can be baited so easily is a bit disturbing.
It was pretty clear from watching the debate, the post debate and the "focus group" commentary on Fox News last Thursday, that Fox wanted Donald Trump taken out. Someone, somewhere at Fox gave the order, and they really tried their best to accomplish that goal. I'm glad its backfired.
The ultra conservatives are defending Trump. Savage, Levin...those type of people. The base will listen to them. I like Megyn Kelly, but this is not going to turn out good for her...

She did nothing wrong. As I said, the questions were dumb but oh well. Trump will probably move past this and she will too. But, maybe people just like Trump enough to give him a pass.

Yes, I watched it too. I hope she just moves on. He should move on. It won't hurt her. She isn't running for office. But, he needs to stop focusing on crap and tell us WHY he would be a better Pres than Obama or Hillary.
I think we have some really great new non political contenders for office. I think Carson is a breathe of fresh air too. He's not a namby pamby. He's not going to be bought and sold. However, I think this Trump Circus overshadows some of the other really great contenders. I didn't see the first debate but I hear Fiorina did a brilliant job.

I would take him seriously if he did that. There's a difference between being politically correct and being a decent human being with manners. Even if he doesn't like a question or thinks it's rude or unfair he should just use it to his advantage. He could have easily said, "I have had my differences with some people in the past, both men AND women, but I don't favor one over the other. I expect you to work hard and do your job no matter what sex you are. And that is a problem with our country today. For example, look at the IRS..." There were so many ways he could have used that question to his advantage. I would actually take him seriously if he quit this name calling and side show and acted like a grown up. And I don't care how much money he has.

See, if he had said that and Megyn had pushed it further he could have answered, "I will say I have very high standards for the people who work for me. That being said, if someone in the past, present, or future has an issue with my behavior or something I have said to them they need to bring it to me for discussion. We will air it out and come to a resolution."
There is not much left for someone like Megyn to say after that. My problem with Trump is not what he says but how he says it. I don't buy this not PC thing. You can say pretty much whatever you like but if you say it with class it will be well received. There's an old saying about something like "A good lawyer can tell you to go to hell and make you say thank you as you walk out." THAT is what we need.

You know he could have even said, "I'm a tough businessman. I understand that in the course of doing business I make enemies. But that's part of business. I'm okay with that. However, it's that attitude that is going to help lead this country out of debt."

No, because they were clear. You were talking about him tasting funny. That was...well...that was just odd....
It's called an analogy. Look it up. I was calling him a clown. People like clowns, but don't want one in their homes.
It's not rocket science. The other insults by the other poster were very clear. Perhaps if she calls him enough names (a joke and an idiot) you all might change your minds abiout him as POTUS?
I actually think Trump COULD be a good POTUS. IF he buckled down, quit making this all about him and his clown show, quit playing games, and did what was good for the country and not him.

I don't know anyone that likes clowns .. or circuses actually.
Of course. The Cirque du Soleil was a huge failure and never got off the ground. Nobody liked it.
Um ok... but that wasn't the type of circus I was referring to. Although if you want to go in that direction, I thought Zumanity sucked. Worst show I've ever seen. The whole thing pretty much gave me the willies.
And honestly, your comment about clowns, the circus and eating clowns was just pretty much stupid and that's why I responded to it. Maybe you thought it was clever? It just didn't make any sense to me, when we all seemed to be having an intelligent conversation for the most part.
eta: You come across like you don't care for the majority of posters around here... so I took it like a pathetic attempt at a jab. I could be wrong.
