Also - if you "figure out" who someone is on another board - their user name there is private information as to this board.  You may not "out" someone who may be trying to get a fresh start by telling their old user name(s) here.  If they want people to know, they will tell them.  See above for the consequences of sharing private information.

 Who is this directed at?

It is directed at you.  And I edited your post.  You used a person's screen name from another board on here.

I have two Targets near my house. They are a great store. I've only been in the toy section twice & I thought both times that they had a very meager selection of toys compared to other similar type stores.

Quite alright.  She doesn't get her panties in a twist over it - but I needed to take it down and remind you of the rule.  Interestingly enough - Weltz did the exact same thing when she got here.

You were right...it was on another board, so I apologize. In my defense, the same posters post on both boards. I know who said what but I'm not supposed to "out" anybody, so that's the end of that.

Thank you for your apology.  Just a point to make - they may be some of the same posters, but they are arguing with many different folks who push buttons differently.  There are no innocent parties in arguments such as those, I find.

Alright - I was just in Target, and the "girl" lego sets are still in a different aisle than the "boy" lego sets.

But, I did think about this thread and I would be very happy if they would put all the Nerf guns in one spot - boys and girls. BUT, the problem is this, so many people think of Nerf guns as a "boy" toy, they would not go looking there for a "girl" gun. You can take the gender steriotypes out of the store, but you can't take them out of the people.

I went to nerf.hasbro.com.  There are no "girl" Nerf guns.  Out of 227 products 200 are "boy" products 27 are gender neutral.  It seems Nerf belongs in the "boy" aisle.

Did you search Nerf Rebelle?  Those are very much "girl" with flowers and everything.

OK - I just went and searched and if you put in Rebelle you will get 3 products.  If you put in girl - you get 2 products.  But you are correct - there is no gender selection for girl, and even when you go to "both", you don't get the Rebelle stuff.  We have TONS of it in my house.

I confiscated all the guns in my house. They are in a box under my bed. No one dares open the box. The wrath of Mommy will descend if they do.

Nerf guns, legos, farm sets, animal sets. None of those were ever boy or girl toys to me.

And if it squirted water, shot darts, or popped caps, my kids had it.

Of course they also had the real thing too.

I don't have a bit of problem with kids having toy guns.

I dont care what my boys want to play with, if they want it, they can have it. Interestingly enough, I tried to get offspring#3 to use a towel that was pink and yellow cuz all the other towels were not readily available and he looked at me like I just sprouted another head. "I cant use THAT! That is a GIRLS towel!" and no amount of reasoning got him to change his mind. You can PC to death the world all you want, but in the end - out of the mouths of babes - we see all our rantings and workings are a moot point.

I don't have a bit of a problem with my kids having toy guns either. Until they start shooting people, and pets, in the face. We have two rescue dogs that have never shown a single sign of aggression. I would like to keep it that way. Then we have Hemi who is 14 and blind and deaf. In dog years that's like 96. I'd be pissed at 96 if some bratty kid was shooting at me with nerf guns. I warned SS not to shoot the dogs. He thought it was funny. Next I told him he'd lose the nerf guns for a day. Gave them back and he did the same thing. I took them for a week. Soon as he got them back he was back to shooting the dogs. I took them for a month. He got them back and went after the dogs again. So now they are permanently mine.

Totally agree. If he cant respect your authority and refuses to learn a lesson, time to take back the 'toy' that he is not using properly.

Thanks.  It wasn't the gun but treating people and pets with respect when playing with it.

We try to keep spankings to very very serious offenses.  But you know, he now is not allowed to have play guns in my house.  At all.  So he screwed that one up.

Some children learn the hard way regardless of how consistent or reasonable your lessons are. If my sister saw a 15% chance she was not going to get caught, she felt the risk was worth it. Then when she WAS caught and punished, she blamed my parent "how dare you punish me! you are aweful people!" rather than be like me and "gee, I dont like this punishment very much. I think I am not going to do that again."

I'm always taking toys away from the boys that are misused. Usually they get one chance, and they blow it. So in the trash it goes.

I bought Baby J some boy shoes for school b/c it is really hard to find girl sneakers that meet the uniform requirements. She said all the kids told her she was wearing boy shoes but I just asked her if she liked them, and she said yes, and I told her that is all that matters.

OK, so the kids can wear brown, black, red or white shoes.  Sneakers have to be white and if they have a color accent, the color has to be red, black or blue.  So, most of the girls wear black mary janes or red toms or similar.  Baby J like sneakers.  We have a solid white pair, but she also liked these - they are white, black and blue sketchers and light up!

Remember keds? I liked them but they were not comfortable. I found $10 Kmart shoes that looked just like them and we're incredibly comfortable.

Hey. What about Oxford or penny loafers? Those were great shoes. Loved my oxfords.

I wonder how the kids could tell they were boys' shoes?

When my boys were in preschool I could not find boys' turtlenecks so I bought them the girls'. They wore them under sweaters, etc., and no one knew the difference. Even I had forgotten about that until you mentioned your daughter's shoes.

I remember back when I was in middle school it was all the style for girls to wear boys Nikes. My feet are narrow & I had a hard time because they were too wide for my feet.

I don't have occasion to shop for girls so I'm not familiar with what they wear, but if I saw those shoes, from the mother of sons aspect, I would think those were boys' shoes.

I remember when it was popular to wear boys' gym shorts.  I wore my brother's after he graduated.  They were so comfortable I wore them around the house for a few years after graduating.  The man next door used to come out and visit when I washed my car.  He used to say it was because I wore those little red pants.  I used to cringe but his wife just laughed.  We're still friends and on FB together.

As you can see, I wore them out:Red pants.jpg

I needed some sweat pants for SS one year and they didn't have any boys.  DH had a holy fit because I bought navy and black sweats for SS in the girls department.  I didn't tell SS and he never knew.

I'm terrible in toy aisles. My kids get on to me cause I push all the buttons. I have to see everything. It's crazy.

And for the record, boys toys are more fun most of the time.

Target has always been very "trendy". That is hardly new. Registering at Target is a mistake - they will discontinue and clearance out your stuff before your event, and forget about completely something.

I like Target - I doubt this will affect my shopping except for baby showers, but I still think it's dumb.

Our Target has rows upon rows upon rows of baby furniture. Literally dozens of them. And diapers. Every brand, name, and size. And they're big into the organic stuff. Other than that the baby section is very small and limited. The few things they have a really nice and usually a brand but there's not a lot of selection. I bought a friend a swing from there once. They have tons of options with them.
