How old were you when you got them out? I still have mine. But, DD11 has wisdom teeth that are already rooting, and she'll have to have them out probably in the next year or two. That seems really young to me.

I still have one. I had one removed a few years ago, and the other 2 removed last November. It just wasn't on my parents radar when we were growing up.
DD had hers removed when she was 16. DS still has his, but I think he's going to take care of that soon...
11 DOES seem really young, but everyone is different.

All of mine had been removed by the time I was 14. I think it all depends on whether they are affecting the other teeth as to when they are removed (or not).

DD11 has perfectly straight teeth - no braces needed. But the wisdom teeth are set at an angle - so if they start to break through, they will affect her other teeth.

Personally, I think the earlier the better. Especially if your DD has straight teeth, you wouldn't want them growing in and then her needing braces.
I had my bottom two molars pulled so my wisdom teeth could grow into those spots, but we never got around to doing the top. My dentist says I will need them out soon, but I am putting off for as long as I can. DH just had all four of his out a few months ago.
Mine were visible on x-ray at age 20. I promptly underwent oral surgery to have them all removed before they started to come in and cause my other teeth to move. My parents paid a lot of money for my braces. At the time, my dentist pulled extra teeth in the back to allow room for my wisdom teeth to come in. However, a couple were possibly going to come in at an angle so rather than risk it, I went to an oral surgeon and got them out. 20 minutes under general anesthesia, and they were gone.
I had 5 wisdom teeth. The bottom two came in when I was 20ish. They came in at an angle and got removed. The upper ones came in in 2011 and got removed. They also came in at an angle and I had 2 wisdom teeth on my right side, one of which was curved around the bone a little bit. I have a small mouth so there was no way they could've stayed.
I was 24. All 4 and a molar taken out the same day.
My kids still have theirs. Jesse is complaining about his. Looking for someone to take out. It's not painful for him yet. Just annoying at times. He also has extra teeth that need to come out. He has shark teeth. Two sets on each side in the back. Mouth full of teeth.

I had 5. Had them all out at 16. Dentist yelled at me saying he told me a year earlier that they needed to come out. They were fully impacted and growing toward my other teeth.
I had mine out at 18, DH still has his,
oldest son had his out at 18
next son at 18
then last three I had it done all in one day! they were 18, 16 and 14. Dentist said it was a good time, and so I had them all in upstairs bedrooms and doctored and cared for them all together, it really was not bad at all, but DH did go to oral surgeon with us and help me get them all home! oldest was son and he was not tiny LOL
now all kids done, DH says his will never come out

I had mine removed as they deteriorated in my 40's.
Oldest DD was 16 when she had all of hers removed. They were impacted and painful for her.
DS still has his. He's in his 30's.
Youngest DD had hers surgically removed last year, also impacted and causing damage to permanent molars. All four at once. What a nightmare. She's a big girl (24), and she stopped breathing on the way home. Good thing I know how to do a sternal rub.
If the dentist advises that the teeth be removed, get it over with as soon as possible. JMHO

I was 20, mine came in when I was pregnant with DS and so couldn't be taken out until after I gave birth, I went through 9 months of my mouth being slightly opened all the time. My mouth was too small for the teeth.

Not everyone has their wisdom teeth out. I had mine done as an adult. But only because they grew in horizontally.

I have no idea when mine actually came in. Probably during my drug induced years. One broke when I was in my 20s. That one was removed. So then there were 3. One I have to have for alignment. The other 2 were taken out in November to make way for a sleep appliance.

22 years old and taken out by an Army dentist when I was in the US Army. God help us all. One was impacted and he managed to smash it into tiny pieces when he was trying to "quarter" it and take it out. Try 3 and a half hours in the chair with your mouth open and God only knows what trickling down your throat. Could not open my mouth for the next 2 days as the muscles clenched up after the mouth being open so long. Had better luck two weeks later as tooth was not impacted and he got it out in 30 minutes or so... At least it did not cost anything and I got time off till my mouth was back to normal. Oh, yes, those days of US Army medical benefits.... LOL
I still have mine, the last one is still coming in.
They told me I HAD to take them out at 18, and I left the country for three months instead, and refused to go back to the dentist for over a year, and then they sheepishly said they were coming in fine, and it didn't seem like they needed to come out after all.
Haven't been back since. They don't bother.
So, DD14 got her wisdom teeth removed on Monday. They were impacted. She is pathetic and pitful. She still looks like a chipmunk and is miserable. How long is this going to take to stop hurting?

I'm not sure I remember. I got mine out on a Friday. Saturday I went to a street fair. I looked like a chipmunk, but some guy walked up to me and gave me a rose. I guess he felt sorry for me. I seem to remember returning to work on Monday and was still puffy. But as far as pain, I only remember it hurting that first night when I tried to eat. But I have a high pain tolerance level.
I have an aversion to pain medicine. Took one codeine after the wisdom teeth extraction and got nauseous. Soldiered through it. After my c-section, didn't bother taking anything. Just got up and moved. For me, keeping myself moving helps my recoveries.
I don't know. I was in blinding pain for days, dry sockets are no joke.
Cold hurt. So I alternated cold and warm.
I ended up going back two days later and getting a novacane socked packing inserted and a shot of painkiller in the jaw.
I was a drooling mess for two days after that.
Is she bruising? Hope not.

That does seem pretty young. SOme of it depends on the orthodontist and dentist. Some want them out early than others. My sons had theirs out and they were at least 14 or older and post braces or finishing braces. DD just finished braces and now they want her to have them out and she's 16. I will probably do that this summer.
The first day, she bit her lip really badly b/c her lips and chin were numb. That hurts just as much.
I gave her the good drugs last night so she could sleep, and she was high as a kite, but the surgeon wants that limited b/c they are so addictive.
Can she take ibuprofen and acetaminophen, alternated, like ? That would probably help.
Staying ahead of the pain is the key.

She has 800 mg prescription strength motrin, hydrocodone and phenegren. She's got drugs. They only seem to take the edge off.
Yeah, it will not make it go away.
Having wisdom teeth removed is traumatic, and in her small mouth, probably a lot of bruising in the bone.
If she is still having so much pain, I don't know if I wouldn't call the doctor.
Of course this is the third day after, it may be a lot better tomorrow.
It's hard when your kids are in pain.

I was in my late 20’s when I had mine removed. It was worse than natural child birth, c-section and my hysterectomy all rolled into one experience. Those I bounced back from in 24 hours. I was miserable for a solid 8-10 days. DD was 16 and was fine in a couple of days. DS was 14 and didn’t take anything stronger than Tylenol the first afternoon.
Time to just let her have the 800MG of ibruprophen, don't need the heavy drug thing, doing so may help her be more tolerant of pain. Or take on of the bad pills and cut in thirds.

What? Sorry. I completely disagree. Give the heavy stuff at night.
