For example, rsums with white-sounding names have a 50% greater chance of receiving a callback when compared to those with African American names, according to a study performed for the National Bureau of Economic Research by the University of Chicago's Marianne Bertrand and Massachusetts Institute of Technology's Sendhil Mullaina.

Many job seekers agree. Nakores Sameita, 26, believes her ethnic-sounding name works against her. The former credit analyst for Chrysler was laid off in June and recently decided to go back to school for a masters in finance because her job search has been fruitless.

It is a hybrid of names.  And thanks.  I like it.  It's unusual.  I've also heard that about the job thing.  But I think they're talking about things like lawyers and really high up there jobs.  I don't think they're talking about factory workers.

 That same article also states:

Recruiters say that an applicant's name has no bearing on their chances of getting hired, and many states require employers to establish and enforce anti-discrimination policies.

"As a recruiter, the name is usually the last thing I look at," said Thad Schiele. "My job is to get the hiring manager the best candidates for a position."

That wasn't a study nor was anything proven, it was an opinion article.  I'm apt to believe original names are quite useful especially in sales where you want folks to remember you and stand out from the bob smiths.

Yes, I must have.  But you are only talking about you.  Just because wierd names don't phase you doesn't mean that relates to anyone else.  And what do you hire them to do?  Are they professional jobs?

I'm just so excited to have an explanation for my impulsive spending habits. Apperently, having a last name that started with "V" through my childhood makes me more impulsive to buy things "before they are gone" because I always had to wait as a kid.

I hired executive level managers at the end of my career. I hired a Barbie, a Rainbow (highest level manager at the time, for the company I worked for), a LaQuita, a Fuller. The list goes on.

Frankly ma'am, your experience holds no more water than mine. We're all sharing our experiences and mine being different doesn't mean it's bs.

It wasn't just a shared experience.  It was a direct questioning of my knowledge.  I posted the data, whether one choses to believe it or not is not my problem.  Go right ahead and name your child Uteruz or Facebook or La-a.  The chances of them flipping burgers for the rest of their life just multiplied significantly...

Hiring someone with a odd name might depend on the kind of business they applied for. I doubt our company will hire a Barbie ,Rainbow or a Bambie. We might possibly if we knew the person personally and know they are capable of the job and are professional and don't act as cutsie as the name. I work in a male dominant business and when I hear names of companies owned by women that sounds so cutsey and girly I just roll my eyes and choose not to do business with them.

Honestly we want our daughters to take on the world and be treated as equals and professionals and then we make it even harder on them by giving them silly names. What is cute on a baby girl may hinder them later. (goes for males too) My mom wanted to name me a weird to her sounded cute name and all I can say is thank God for fathers who put their foot down.

I work in a very multi-culti environment. Some of the Tagalog names are pretty funny. Bambi. Lolita. Italy. First. Second. Prayer. We also have a lot of immigrants from Africa, with names you can't pronounce. One fellow's name is a series of clicks. We call him Jacques.

Fancy doesn't die.  She gets rich.  Her mom sends the baby off to the orphanage.  She probably knew a baby would get adopted but an older girl wouldn't.  After the kids are gone the MOM dies.

Didn't the mom die of cancer? She knew she was going to die, so she did what she could to help the young ones survive

I have an extremely ethnic name. I've gotten every job I ever applied for, even when I was woefully unqualified. But then, really attractive people always get hired.

A beautiful song?  She sends her daughter off with men to be a prostitute, and dies.

But in the end Fancy gets rich. smile

Fancy doesn't die.  She gets rich.  Her mom sends the baby off to the orphanage.  She probably knew a baby would get adopted but an older girl wouldn't.  After the kids are gone the MOM dies.

The mom dies.  "The welfare people came and took the baby, Mama died, and I ain't been back"
