I don't microwave plastic. I store in the plastic & then put on a plate or bowl to microwave. I do put them in the dishwasher & did not know that also was bad.

Meh. I've never heard of any kind of actual illness or death due to microwaving plastic.

And we don't do it often enough to build anything up.

I still have no problems with drinking from the garden hose if need be either.

Not faulting anyone who wants to avoid these things either.

I don't either.

Popcorn, potatoes, warming a plate of leftovers.

The kids will toss a sausage biscuit in there after school.

I do like the easy of the steam in bag veggies from Birdseye though.

I use the microwave to reheat leftovers or defrost meat. That's about it. Other than that, I use the stove or oven.

Well it isn't like the autopsy is going to read "cause of death: plastic bowl of left overs put in the microwave". But it MIGHT say "colon cancer" or "stomach cancer" etc. People wonder why cancer is so much more prevalent these days. Eating plastic for lunch is one reason.

When we moved from NY/NJ, we sold EVERYTHING, lived off paper plates/plastic cups for 3 months, and then bought Correlle - Galloway pattern. White, with light green ivy around the edge, and a green stripe on the outter edge. I have 12 dinner plates, 4 lunch plates, 4 saucers (the cups got ditched), 8 bread & butter plates, 8 cereal bowls, 2 vegetable dishes, and one small oval platter. If anyone ever comes across serving dishes or platters, I would LOVE to get some more. I bought the original set (Wal-Mart) in 2004, and haven't seen it lately.

As far as dinner (or any other meal) is concerned - I'm IT!

DH was raised in a time and location where the wife took care of EVERYTHING in the house. He won't even put a dish in the dishwasher - at least he puts dishes in the sink! Laundry and cleaning are my bailiwick as well.

I need to buy cereal/souo bowls that match the dishes I have now. I hate the bowls in the set for those.

I like to steam veggies in the microwave. That is what I use it for the most.

Lily, just as the foam take out containers are, the cheap gladwear when microwaved melts somewhat and puts the toxins into the food.  I won't even microwave tupperware.  Please don't do that.

I appreciate what you are saying.

But really, a person would have to consume huge quantities from plastic to cause a problem.

Everything I have says microwavable.

So you eat a clean diet?  Nothing really pre-made, no artificial sweeteners, colors, additives, etc?

The general american diet is full of ridiculous stuff.

Yep.  Unless you are growing it yourself you'd be surprised how much stuff is in food.

Exactly.  You really need to take care to control it where you easily can.  And microwaving your food on plastic is an easy thing not to do.

Just a curiosity.......I eat a lot of frozen dinners for my lunch. They are in plastic containers. I assumed they were safe since they are specifically meant to be microwaved. Does anybody know for sure?

We use the glad ware but we don't put it in the microwave. DH is nuts about that. He also won't even put hot food into it. You have to let it cool down before he'll let you put it in a container.

I just googled & according to Good Housekeeping they tested 27 different plastic containers one being a Stouffers frozen dinner & one of their Kid's Cuisine line & neither had PBA.

I always wait until my food cools down to put it in the plastic containers too. I'm worried the cheap plastic will melt.

I never said I had a clean diet.

But yes. We do grow a huge portion of our own food. Between all of our families gardens, we eat a whole lot of fresh foods.

Including eggs and meats.

Our butchers market has local beef, pork and chicken.

Yes we buy food at the grocery stores but not as much as some.

Example, tonight is beef stew.

The stew beef comes from a local beef farm, the vegetables from known gardens. The seasoning pack comes from the store.

So yeah. My eating habits are not bad.

MOst of them are BPA free, and safe for one use.  But, the more you microwave it, or expose to heat via a dishwasher, the more it breaks down and releases toxins.  So, if you toss it after you eat the food - not really a big deal.  But things like Gladware, which is not meant for microwaving in the first place, that gets used over and over, is really bad.

Flan, I googled & it appears Stouffers at least is safe.  Well maybe not safe but it didn't leach any PBA from the container.

Whatever, Lily.

According to the Good Housekeeping testing some of those did in fact have PBA even though they claimed not to.  I can't remember which ones because I was concentrating on the frozen dinners.

I wouldn't trust Glad in the microwave. We used to put it in there until it started melting with the food. If the container is melting then that cannot be good.

Ummm... something can be too expensive in the store. We get a lot of fresh veggies from our gardens. We put up as much as we can. Some times, it doesn't last till the next harvest. We then get what we can from the store.

You want to tell me you don't notice how much things cost even if you don't regularly buy it?

I hear belly aching when not buying fresh produce all the time with food stamps and then I hear complaining when I get fresh veggies for nothing.

So what's the real problem?

And FYI, I haven't had food stamps for over a year now.

Whatever, Lily.  It seems you will believe whatever you want to believe and it obviously has to be the opposite of what the majority of others are saying.  Enjoy your plastic for dinner.  Of course, I don't know why this is such an issue for you if you are just eating fresh meats and veggies all the time.

How about if I say the sky is a really pretty blue today - you want to contradict me on that?

The stew beef comes from a local beef farm, the vegetables from known gardens. The seasoning pack comes from the store.

So yeah. My eating habits are not bad.

I just can't keep up.  You change your arguments so frequently depending on what you want to argue about that day.  When it's the food stamp thread, meats and fresh veggies and fruits are too expensive and you can't buy them.  When someone questions you about this, it's all you eat.

Whatever, Lily.

I've noticed this too.  You say you eat so healthy and then you talk about eating spray cheese and box cake mixes and cookies and all kinds of stuff.  You have stated over and over that you will die drinking soda.  Even though we all know how horrible soda is for you.  But then you say you eat a clean diet.  You are all over the place in your statements.

Ummm... something can be too expensive in the store.

I think the real problem, for many of us, is that you purport to live this healthy wholesome lifestyle but anyone who reads your posts can see just how much junk food you consume.  You also eat out a lot.  That food is not good.  And has tons of crap in it.  We really don't care what you eat.  What irks us is that you lie about it.

Ah yes. The company promoting their own product - very reliable source. Seriously makes me doubt the independant scientific studies. Not.

All I'm saying is, it's not always cut and dry.

And yeah. Information from the company.

Or perhaps we should go to pilots for information about law?

Whatever, Lily.  It seems you will believe whatever you want to believe and it obviously has to be the opposite of what the majority of others are saying.  Enjoy your plastic for dinner.  Of course, I don't know why this is such an issue for you if you are just eating fresh meats and veggies all the time.

How about if I say the sky is a really pretty blue today - you want to contradict me on that?

 Exactly. Whatever.

Just because I disagree with you, you try to insult me.

As I said before, and you can go back and see for yourself, if a person wants to avoid certain things then I don't blame them.

But it seems if someone doesn't fall all over themselves to get aboard your band wagon, well they are just stupid or lying or something.

I gave my thoughts and opinions. You took them personally and pretty much started attacking me.

So whatever LL.

Why is it that whenever LL disagrees with you she is attacking you? Victim much?
