Good thing I don't have bad eating habits or regularly consume toxins.
So you eat a clean diet? Nothing really pre-made, no artificial sweeteners, colors, additives, etc?
The general american diet is full of ridiculous stuff.
I never said I had a clean diet.
But yes. We do grow a huge portion of our own food. Between all of our families gardens, we eat a whole lot of fresh foods.
Including eggs and meats.
Our butchers market has local beef, pork and chicken.
Yes we buy food at the grocery stores but not as much as some.
Example, tonight is beef stew.
The stew beef comes from a local beef farm, the vegetables from known gardens. The seasoning pack comes from the store.
So yeah. My eating habits are not bad.
I just can't keep up. You change your arguments so frequently depending on what you want to argue about that day. When it's the food stamp thread, meats and fresh veggies and fruits are too expensive and you can't buy them. When someone questions you about this, it's all you eat.
Whatever, Lily.
I've noticed this too. You say you eat so healthy and then you talk about eating spray cheese and box cake mixes and cookies and all kinds of stuff. You have stated over and over that you will die drinking soda. Even though we all know how horrible soda is for you. But then you say you eat a clean diet. You are all over the place in your statements.
Ummm... something can be too expensive in the store. We get a lot of fresh veggies from our gardens. We put up as much as we can. Some times, it doesn't last till the next harvest. We then get what we can from the store.
You want to tell me you don't notice how much things cost even if you don't regularly buy it?
I hear belly aching when not buying fresh produce all the time with food stamps and then I hear complaining when I get fresh veggies for nothing.
So what's the real problem?
And FYI, I haven't had food stamps for over a year now.
I think the real problem, for many of us, is that you purport to live this healthy wholesome lifestyle but anyone who reads your posts can see just how much junk food you consume. You also eat out a lot. That food is not good. And has tons of crap in it. We really don't care what you eat. What irks us is that you lie about it.
Are you kidding me?
You equate eating out with eating junk.
I've posted pictures of the food I eat.
Yes. We grab something now and then.
But the majority of our meals are made at home.
You almost seem a bit envious in your comment.

Lily, I hate to say this, but frankly there is no way in hell I'd ever be jealous of you or your lifestyle.

I was first slapped with "I thought you used paper plates", then the "bad eating habits and consuming toxins", then the whole food stamp slam and there is more.
Do you guys not know how debating works? I was talking about plastics and how a person would have to consume a crap ton of stuff from them before it made a difference.
I wasn't the one who began questioning anyone's eating or purchasing habits.

I do. I also know how taking things personally and blaming other people works, too. For example - I didn't say a damn thing to Lily about her paper plates, and I was responding to Mellow Momma about her cancer comment when talking about bad eating habits and toxins, b/c I was agreeing with her that doing that habitually can contribute to cancer. Does Lily have cancer? Not that I know of. But, damn, she sure does react badly to anything she disagrees with.

I have to defend Lily here. She googled glad ware and found an answer!

I just really don't care. I'm quite tired of being accused of "attacking" someone when I did no such thing. Furthermore, I'm done arguing about this - I was trying to have a discussion about the dangers of heating plastic with food and instead of taking it as it was meant, being argued with over it as if the person as a personal stake in gladware is ridiculous.
People's health is more important than being right, but it's their decision.
So have at it - you want to eat plastic, bon appetit!

well tonight at my house we are having a BBQ on the back deck with family and my DD's finance's family.
We will have grilled rib eyes, grilled corn on the cob, I made some veggie ka-bobs, with zucchini, mushrooms, onions, yellow squash, and pineapple, and then some Yukon gold potatoes, (I Love the taste of those) if I feel inclined when I get off I might or might not make grape salad! It was initially 7 of us, just heard that one of my DS's and his GF are coming, and most likely the oldest DS and his GF will be there too. only on of our kids missing is the one camping LOL.
I am used to lots of people to cook for and actually struggle making less when it is just DH and I. I am looking really forward to it. Our beef is from my IL's ranch, veggies are from my garden, we live in the country and that is what we eat, cause we always have, and yes we also enjoy food from grocery store. I don't grow grapes, or cream cheese or brown sugar LOL
anyway, everyone enjoy a nice evening eating whatever you plan on and doing something you enjoy!

Since one of your kids is missing I will gladly stand in & take their place & eat their dinner! It sounds delish. Enjoy.

Honestly most restaurant food isn't that good for you. Its usually higher in calories and the portions are out of control. I think if most people kept a food diary for a week and really looked at the ingredients they'd be a bit surprised about what they are consuming. I know I could do better.
I'll agree that eating out too much can cause weight gain and related problems. We eat out once or twice a week, and I eat lunch out 3-4 times a week. I try to research the menu for the healthiest, WW approved choices. There are ways to eat out and stay fit.
Not sure about the whole plastic thing, but I'm not an expert. It would make sense that it's not healthy, and this thread has made me start putting food in my stoneware or corning ware to reheat.
Everyone's lifestyle is different, and I try not to judge a person for dining out frequently, or not dining out. Growing up, we dined out occasionally, as we did not have a lot of money. This was also the age before microwaves and hamburger helper, so meals were made from scratch. We were thinner and healthier in the 70's. Just watch a movie that was made in the 70's or 80's. Take a look at the background people. No one is fat. So I find a strong correlation between convenience foods and obesity. But with busy lifestyles, it's easier to tear open a box and add water. Or peel back plastic and press a couple buttons. I have fallen into the convenience set and the consequences were not good for me. Others might be able to eat that way and not have any problems. Fortunately, I enjoy cooking, and I don't mean instant.
Trudy...when my kids were younger, they are three boys 28, 24, 22 and my two girls are 20 and 18, I used to bake my bread...yes I may have been *crazy* to some, but it was easy for me and cheaper with my herd. NO we never churned our own butter but do have chickens for eggs LOL. Grew up drinking fresh cow milk...YUCKKKKKKK do not even like milk now...no warm foam milk for me thank YOU VERYMUCH. but we never used margarine, only store bought butter.
Life with so many kids was and is a blast. I used to hear all the time "OMG Glad they are YOURS and not MINE" and they were very well behaved, none wanted the *EYE* though I am not sure how that came around but it apparently worked, anyway, I would respond to those who said things like that "OH me too!"
Maybe a handful sometimes, but damn always a heart full. I have been very blessed.

I read labels when I shop. If I can't make it from scratch it generally doesn't come in the house. I avoid stuff with fake dyes and fake flavorings. Imitation Vanilla Extract - Gross.

I agree with everything here. Eating out was a treat when I was a kid. Then as a young adult I was flat broke & couldn't afford to eat out. Now I eat out once a week & we have delivery on Fridays. I always ask for a box with my order & put half in the box before beginning eating. Unless it is a salad. That is an old WW trick & it does help because I can not always trust myself to stop when I'm full because it tastes good. I have also gotten lazy & fallen into the packaged easy foods & my scale is telling me it isn't the best thing for me.

I agree with everything you said. And as for eating out. We could easily afford to eat out all the time. There is no reason for me to be jealous of that. I have a bunch of friends who eat out all the time. Where I live a bunch of restaurants run specials on certain nights a week. So basically it ends up that you can hit each special on that night and eat out all the time. But it's expensive to eat out. People can argue with me as much as they want but it is. Even ordering pizza is expensive. We choose to prioritize our money elsewhere. I would much rather have a nice savings account than go out to eat every night of the week.

I know right? My mom and gramma made their own butter, the closet I got as an adult was a project for a kid with a jar and frantic shaking like a fool
Well, that's where you went wrong. You get a mason jar, put the cream in, shut the lid tight, and tell the kids to roll it to each other!

We don't eat as well as we should sometimes, so I have to watch what things I can, and I'm really not a fan of artificial anything. No sugar free - if you are going to eat it, make it real and do it in moderation. We try to stay away from preservatives as much as we can, and I try to avoid adding any chemicals whereever possible. I throw out non-stick pans if they get scratched, I don't reuse plastic water bottles, I don't microwave my food in cheap plastic, and I only use real butter.

I love home baked bread! My brothers MIL figured it out and would drop a loaf off to me weekly. Oh, her English muffins? To die for! Her garden was the best. Sadly she passed. Still miss her.
When I bake bread it is cheater bread. I dump the box mix & water into my bread maker & wait 3 hours. The Krusteez brand sour dough is completely delicious. And the house smells divine.

When I bake bread - it is cheatier than that. I buy the frozen dough, let it rise and put it in the oven for 30 minutes.

My #2 loves when I bake bread. He's salivating and when I pull it out to cool, he's right there, grabbing at the top part and devouring it while it's still hot. Well, okay, we both are. That's why I don't make it myself very often.
I don't have one of those bread machines. And kneading the dough has become extremely painful.
I do need to teach the kids how to make loaf bread.
