A shocking video has emerged which shows the horrific final moments of a three-year-old girl after she was thrown into a hotel pool by a man, believed to be her stepfather, and drowned.

The well-built man, who has not been named, can be seen repeatedly throwing the little girl into the swimming pool in Morelia, in the south-west Mexican state of Michoacan.

She is seen battling to keep herself afloat in the footage, which was captured on the hotel's CCTV cameras on August 12 and posted online by Quadratin News.

The man is filmed forcefully tossing her into the water and submerging her several times, while other guests are in the pool.

At one point he throws her in and walks away before returning and tossing her back in when she is fully-clothed.

He later stands at the poolside as her arms flail in the air reaching out for help, before throwing in a lifebuoy but the little girl is too weak to grab it.

Police say the man, his partner and her daughter were staying at the hotel together and the mother was asleep in their room when the incident happened, according to the local paper,Proceso

The mother is said to have taken her daughter to hospital after realising she wasn't breathing and doctors confirmed she had died.

A post-mortem examination is said to have revealed that the cause of death was mechanical asphyxia by drowning.

Police say a man, believed to be the toddler's stepfather, has been arrested and charged with homicide and treason.

He has been detained in custody while investigations, which could take months, continue

If you were a hotel guest in the pool, and saw a man throw a small child into the water,

would you maybe assume that this was his way of teaching the kid to swim?

I think a normal person would be able to tell the difference between one playful toss and a child in serious trouble.

Probably, and if the girl looked like she was struggling I would speak up and tell the guy off.

One would hope, but the world seems to be short of that kind of person.

Maybe that is what he was doing--but good God, after awhile, he should be able to tell she's in distress.  I can't believe everyone just sat around and did nothing.

He threw her in a few times, so apparently she got herself out a few times. (One too few).

Lifeguards have said that the person who is really drowning is NOT the one who is struggling,

it's the one who is below the surface and NOT struggling.

If a three year old goes below the surface, you jump in and save them. That's why you are supposed to watch and be close by when small children are in the water.. not chucking them in and walking away.

Tossing her in fully clothed, and people thought he was teaching her to swim?

This is sickening.

I watched the clip of the video. Apparently it was just a very short clip. From it he threw her in twice. She was in her diaper and he jumped in right after her. But again, the video is only about a minute long so I'm sure they left a lot out.

From the article, there must have been more to it.  If the whole ordeal was truly only a minute, then I have more sympathy for those who witnessed it.  If it was much longer, as the article seems to indicate--then I stand by my assertions that someone should have done something other than just video a little girl dying.

He threw her in at least 15 times in this video ...

and it looks like she had survival swimming mastered.

I didn't see any reason why she would have drowned.

Because after 15 times she was too worn out to save herself again.

She was probably worn out from being thrown in so many times, ed.

She couldn't take any more.cry

Yes.  I want to see the whole video.  What the police have.  Not what the press has released.

Everyone at that pool who watched and did nothing are guilty too.

Why is this guy still breathing?
