To be honest, we got DD's first name out of a book. I wanted her middle name to be her first name. Ex husband refused. We went around and around on a first name. We didn't know what we were having so we struggled with a boy name too. A few days before I got put in the hospital we agreed (he picked) with a name from a book and I told the ex since he chose her first name I picked the middle.
My mom said I wasn't named after anyone but my first name is a female version of my grandfather's and uncle's name and my middle name is the same as my great aunt's first name.
I have no idea why my parents chose my names. I hate both of them.
DS1 is actually "the Third." I hated the thought of giving him a number rather than a name, but it meant SO much to DH1 that I couldn't deny him.
DS2 has my initials.

My ex husband was dead set against naming our baby "the third" if DD had been a boy. His dad hounded him about it from the day we found out I was expecting.

When he was growing up, we all called DS1 by his middle name. When he got to high school, he decided to switch. To family, he's still "middle name."
My dad had a friend with my name and liked it, I guess. My middle name is a family name.
For DD, we heard the name somewhere, and then again on a popular TV show, though the name wasn't popular yet. It was the only name DH liked. She has my middle name.
For Baby A, I literally looked at all the names and had a short list of ones I wanted. We finalized it when she was few hours old. Her middle is a name I always liked.
My name is a combination of my dad and my aunt. All of us have combination names. My sister was named after both my mom and dad's colleges. My brother was supposed to be a girl and my mom had her birth announcements already filled out with her name. She didn't get to use them. I hate my mom's name but wanted to honor her somehow so I used the name she picked for my brother. She was thrilled. She has the same middle name as I do. My first son has my ex's name and then my dad's name. We shortened it to his initials to keep confusion to a minimum. His initials are actually the same as a very popular tv star. She goes by the same initials. Last son I just picked his name. I liked it. His middle name is the same as ex's father.

DD was Stevie Nichole until the minute she was born. I changed it on the delivery table. Her father didnt object. My son's first name is a play off my dad's name. I didnt particularly care for may dad's name, so I lengthened it. Guess what? We call him by my dad's shortened name. Hos middle name is the name of my sweet perfect uncle...by marriage. He is the most honorable man i know...

I was named after my sister's friend in her first grade class. We really liked the name we chose for our daughter. My son is named after both his grandfathers.
When I arrived here, I realized I had to have a name like everyone else, so I gave myself one. When I decided I would be residing in the states, I wanted a first name that was not common. My first name is not common here, but my surname can be pronounced without much difficulty. I am glad that I got to pick a name that suited and fit me as an individual.
I'm of Russian descent and I married a Jewish man. We lived in a French milieu but spoke English at home.
The name had to be Russian Orthodox, Hebrew, French and English. I chose "Simon" and everyone was happy. I like that name. Not terribly common this side of the pond.
Each of my kids have 3 names besides their last name.
Caitlyn is a name from a book trilogy. It is Celtic. First middle name is my maternal grandmother. Second middle name was my paternal great grandmother.
Jesse means "God exists" and he is the father of David in the Bible. It was also my grandmother's grandmother, it is also my uncle's name and one of the characters in a book of Caitlyn's. I always liked first midle name, a famous leader. And Storm to remind me that God existed through my storm.
First name is a name I always liked and a famous composer and Caitlyn picked it out. Aaron is the brother of Moses, the high priest in the Bible. And Jesse liked it. Second middle name is my paternal grandfather.
I was named for a famous female country singer and my dad.

I can't tell you who I was named for since it would give my real name away. Let's just say Dad was playing a joke on my maternal GM by naming me after someone she hated and giving me GM's name as my middle.
DS was name after his paternal GF, DS is a II. DD has my most fav name as her middle name, it was going to be her first name but then DS suggested the name I ended up giving her. Because ex DH was out of the picture when DD was born, I named her that. Exdh wanted the name to begin with a "J", well he lost out didn't he?

I've told my kids it's a good thing I wasn't a Supernatural junkie when I was naming them.

My middle name is from my mom's friend that introduced her to my dad. I hate the name and shortened it to just an initial years ago. My children have Biblical names.

My dad wanted to name me after Zelda Fitzgerald. That was before the video game. Both glad and sorry he lost that one.
Bunny is named after each of my grandfathers.
I am named after a female friend my dad had in college who is the only person to ever beat him at chess.
DD24 is named Kate after Katharine Hepburn, I love her as an actress and as a person and always wanted to name a daughter Kate. I struggled with a middle name until my mom asked the women in her office and I used one of the names suggested.
DD17 is named after a famous author. DH and I talked about the author on our first date and when we found out she was a girl, we both knew this was the name we wanted. My mother HATED it at first. Now she can't imagine any other name of course. The name is now very popular and several people I know have named their babies the same name - much to DD's chagrin. She liked being unique. Her middle name is gender neutral and just kind of came to me. It suits her.
Side note: DH is a III. He hates it. When we were still dating I asked him if he wanted a IV and he said under no circumstance did he want a child named ___ ____ ____ IV. Whew. His first name is super common (think Michael or John) and I hate his middle name so that was a relief.

When I named my son, there were absolutely NO boys his name. He was cutting edge. In his high school, he was the only one. 2 years after he graduated, there were 15 kids with his name.
1993...Jackson. Then, it was not even a blip on the map....i think there were 20 Jacksons that year nationwide. ..

Uhhh.....John Smith is very common.

Baby J - well, that's a whole can of worms. Sigh. I don't particularly care for her name, but we shortened it and I like the nickname.
I am named after what my father was called (not his real name, otherwise I'd be Marsha, but mom didn't like Marsha, so she used his nickname and picked the female version of that). My middle name is after a soap opera character. Mom couldn't think of one and was watching soaps in the hospital.

I was supposed to be named Heather until about a month or so before my birth. My dad decided on a name he loved. My mom did not like it so they compromised on a shortened version. My dad always called me by the longer name even though it wasn't really my name. Sort of a reverse nickname. My middle name is after my mother. Again a shortened version. My entire name first middle & last only has 11 letters total.

I'm telling you Lex, we are soul sisters!!!!!!
My first, middle (maiden), and last have 11 letters. Most people IRL call me by my first and maiden name, which was my first and last growing up. But they kind of make it into one name...

We decided that the first one out would be III and the second one named after DH's great uncle who was a naval chaplain (Catholic priest), using my father's first name as his middle name. Had I had a girl, I would have named her Sierra, after the mountain range where I grew up.

We need to meet someday.
Even with just the 11 letters I must be supremely lazy because my signature is always my first & middle initials and last name.

Well, I am not that particular Time Lord. I am not Gallifreyan, but Cypertinian (totally different species) so that point is moot. But if you must know, my first names are Welsh.
VSS SIL named her daughter after her husbands ex g/f. She said she wanted him to know every time he called their name that she had won him over the other woman.
SS has two middle name. DH named him after his deceased brother but his then wife wanted to name him after her ex b/f (Who was married. And not to her.). They compromised and just gave him two middle names.

I was named after my Aunt. My kids were names that DH and I just liked. For our sons, we did give them both a family name. Our oldest son has my brother's middle name. And, our younger son has DH's first name as his middle. Our daughter, we just winged it cuz we thought were having a boy so we just picked the names we liked.
There is a family on my street that has two girls about DD's age. Older one is named Vanilla, younger one Prius. They recently changed Prius' name to Twinkle.

My first name is my dads first girlfriends name and my middle is my mom. DD was a name I liked and my first name for her middle. DS was the name of my first boyfriend and his middle is dads uncle. I guess the apple didn't fall far from the tree when naming kids after first relationships.
There was a family I knew the girls were named Charlene, Darlene and Marlene. His wife found out after the 3rd girl that her dh had an old gf named Arlene. He wouldn't admit it but she thinks that's why he wanted those names, lol.

That must have been one interesting confrontation if there was one1

My mom wanted to name me Ruby Star, but my Grandma pitched a fit. So I'm named after a Beatles song.
DD17 is he!! bent on naming her future daughter Lucy. She wants to make it the Italian version though and name her Lucia (pronounced Looo-chee-uh). We will see if her Beatles obsession lasts long enough.
