Well, they certainly did a bang-up job of that, didn't they?
I'm out as well. I can't stand the utter heartlessness in here. I feel like a need a bath to wash the stink off.
Again. After the fact knowledge.

Being mentally ill does not absolve you of your actions. Even those who are found "not guilty" by reason of insanity are normally sent to an institution for a long period of time--if not life.
What if your husband were a deputy there and instead of throwing pee--she stabbed him? It's not out of the realm. She was in there for attacking an officer and she had already attacked one of the jailers.
And for the record I don't believe they intended to kill her.
I hope this incident causes major overhauling of procedures and how things are done....but without hindsight going into a cell and the prisoner keeps coming at you.....in that moment.....what are you to do?
Rememer the case of the mentally ill teen who was killed after charging the police with a knife? I think we discussed it on the GT. Was the officer to let the kid stab him to death because he was mentally ill?
And at the root....this woman was arrested for assault.....
In some cases I really think the police just can't win.
I'm not going to bother.
The whole thing.... verbal sparring.... unarmed opponent....
You know you say a whole hell of alot of off the wall stuff but I can acknowledge that your opinion is as valid as mine without making it personal or histrionic.
And don't think it actually makes you more popular.....tends to have the reverse effect.
Well I wasn't going to engage but I did. Now go ahead... "oh Mary" me again.
They were in biohazard suits. There was no risk to them whatsover.
So what? They shouldn't have to put up with someone throwing PEE on them while they work. Do you have to put up with that at your job?
That's RIDICULOUS. She brought this on herself. On what planet is it somehow ok to throw your PEE???? If you do that, and some big guys in suits jump your ass and taze you--you deserved it.
This is a classic case of an oxygen bandit. Maybe she didn't exactly "deserve" to die--but the world isn't going to miss her, either.
Wow! I can't believe I'm reading this. What a cold, despicable post.
Horrible. You dare to call a human being an oxygen bandit? A human being. A HUMAN BEING. You, sir, have no idea what she has accomplished, who loved her, what she would have accomplished. Perhaps she was a mother. Perhaps she was an accomplished mathematical genius before schizophrenia claimed her mind. Perhaps she volunteered at the humane society. Perhaps she had the most beautiful garden in her neighborhood. Perhaps she gave birth to the scientist who will cure cancer. You know only a micro-fraction of her life and you dare to say she had no worth?
Blah, blah, blah. Someone loved Charles Manson, too--and Jeffrey Dahmer. So what?
That means NOTHING.

You're absolutely daft.
So, you have no argument.
Your premise was that because someone is loved by someone else (which, we actually do not know if it is true in this case, but I'll play along and assume it is) then they have value.
I put forth examples of people who, most in society, would deem do not really have value--even though someone loves/loved each of them.
That is not the acid test. Everyone who knew him thought Dennis Rader was a great guy, too. Doesn't mean he was.
Beyond that, EVERYONE whom the police give a beat down to probably has someone that loves them. Does that mean they don't or didn't deserve a beat down? Maybe in a few cases they didn't--but very few, and not for that reason.

Worse how? No one has even been able to address my arguments, so I'm winning.
EVERYONE has pointed out the fallacy in your arguments.
flan
No, they have not. They keep blathering on about irrelevant information such as mentally ill, people loved her, blah, blah, blah--which has NOTHING to do with the situation.

Mary, My father is a retired CofP, my stepfather retired as a guard from an Alaskan penitentiary, 3 siblings are currently leos in various communities, my ex spouse is currently an leo in a major metropolitan city. Each one has expressed disgust at this situation. They are all in disbelief that she was tazed in quick succession. Much like My Cousin Vinnie, I'm qualified to say your statement is invalid.
As for husker, what are you arguing? I didn't argue about her being killed. I took you to task for saying she was an oxygen bandit and the world wouldn't miss her. You have nothing to base that on and you were clearly talking out of your ass.

I think that's exactly what many of us are saying.

Frankly, I could not care less about being "popular."

Flan, if you were sitting in a restaurant, or at work in your library and someone came up and threw a cup of piss in your face, I highly doubt you would think it's "no big deal" like you are saying here.

Oh, FFS! I've lost count of how many times I've had pee thrown at me. You wash it off and continue to go about your day. (and I don't even wear a biohazard suit at work). It's all part of the job.
You don't kill the patient.

I was going to say this. But then I decided not to. Not just pee either. The nursing home patients like to throw poop.

The only time it was ever an issue for me was when a patient with MRSA threw his urine and hit me in the eyes. Because it was in my eyes there was a SLIM chance I could catch something. I had to take antibiotics for awhile JIC.

But you didn't kill him, did you?
flan
No. He was a mess. He was a paraplegic. He'd been transporting drugs across state lines. When he got caught he jumped off a ten foot bridge hitting the water and severing his spine. It also left him with serious brain damage. He was violent and would throw stuff. I often wanted to give his mom a beat down because she told us all the time that he was framed and that her little boy (he was in his 30's) had never done drugs. And whenever he would scream out for a hit she used to tell us he was a carpenter and that's what he meant. And she was constantly complaining about the staff. I think I might have tazed her once given the chance. j/k

She was a trip. I hate to say it but I was so glad when she took her son somewhere else. The patient himself wasn't bad. He couldn't help what he did. The mother could.

I sure as crap wouldn't kill the person.
flan
Maybe not--but you don't say what you would do.
A beat down is certainly in order--and deserved.
You keep ignoring the FACT that they didn't intend to kill her.

Will the world miss you when you die?
I have no idea. Not for me to say.
In general, however, the world will miss productive people who contribute to society more than those who do not.

husker, I am NOT going to give anyone a "beat down" while I'm at work. Are you insane? I'd call 911 & get the MIC.
I'm NOT ignoring anything; I've addressed that point several times.
And, fwiw, how do you KNOW they didn't intend just that?
