Kim Cattrall: Actress Says She Finds It Offensive to Be Called 'Childless'

“It sounds like you're less because you haven't had a child. There are many different ways to be a mom in the world," Cattrall, 59, said in an interview with BBC Radio.

Do you agree with Kim Cattrall's opinion that you don't have to be a biological parent, to be a parent? And why?

Cattrall said that she is a parent as she has young actors and actresses that she mentors and nieces and nephews whom she is close to.

Meh. Someone is always offended about something these days.

Yeah, why even bother to talk to anyone? It's a waste of time. Seems most people just want to invent ways to feel pissed off as the very special snowflakes they are.

If you don't have a child you ARE childless. Some people are childless by choice and others by circumstances beyond their control. Being a mentor or a close aunt doesn't change the definition of a word no matter how offensive she finds it.

Well, the "there are many different ways to be a mom in the world" sounds like now we are going redefine who is a mother so that it also no longer means anything. That is what the Libs do. They think that by altering language, then that somehow alters reality. IF we just call a He a She, then somehow that makes it so.

Good point LGS. It does seem they are trying to change the meaning of words and symbols in order to get their way.

I thought "But you AREN'T a parent if you don't have kids." You can be a great Aunt or mentor but you're still not that child's parent.

Or adopt them, or at the very least, raise them in your home.

I have a number of different Moms. At least one of them does not have children of her own. Whatever. She still loves me.

It's not about love Tig. You can love someone's child, mentor them, and feeling motherly toward them. That's legit. Like FNW you have to have responsibility of them to be called a parent. When you care for a child 24/7 it's different. I can't explain it but it is.

I am childless & I am offended that she is offended by the term!

Not really I think she sounds like an idiot. She does not have children, biological, adopted or otherwise therefor she is in fact childless. It is a fact. Why be offended?

It takes more than biology to be a parent. It takes..well...parenting. There can be women who gave birth and gave their child up for adoption. They are childless. There are women who raised a sister's daughter as her own. She is not childless.

I was childless for 44 years. I never thought to be offended about it.

I know!  It's like all of a sudden saying, "She doesn't have kids." is a bad thing.  It's not good or bad.  It's a simple statement.  It describes the person.  Just like race or hair color or eye color.

I'm wondering if she regrets not having kids.

I have MANY women in my life who have mentored me, given me guidance, etc...

But I have only ONE mother. She is irreplaceable.

Well, I'm offended that she would dare compare "mentoring" to "mothering". They are NOT the same thing.

 Parents are there 24/7.
