We had a thread awhile back about "appearances" regarding male/female relationships at work.
Sorry, but most businesses are not run by strictly keeping the genders segregated.
In in the last week alone, I have had closed door meetings with our female HR manager, a female salesperson, and two of the office staff. The first one would be my boss, and I am the manager at the location where the other three work. Another female HR person met with a male employee in a closed door meeting, as well.
im not saying that "no" businesses keep strict gender segregation, but most do not and its not a sin to do your job.

Well, I could agree with you--but then we'd both be wrong.
But you are only using your ONE company experience to imply most, which is not statistically sound.
Neither are those who use their one business to say all businesses are that way. Does your business run with strict segregation between the genders?
I can can tell you that the banking industry, as a whole, does not function that way. My best friend works in banking. His male and female employees often go on the road together. When they get to the banks, they are after paired alone with a member of the opposite gender.

I just had a meeting with a male marketing rep. We didn't shut the door because there was no need to but we were alone in my private office. I didn't really think anything of it.
However, whether it is "most" or not doesn't change the fact that it is NOT a "sin" to do your job. It may not have been you that made that connection, but someone did.

I never said it was a sin. I said I try to avoid the APPEARANCE of sin. Why do you care so much how my business or marriage works? I'm not asking anyone to stop their closed door meetings. It's just not something we do here...

Well some seem to think it would make people think we were doing something other than discussing work.

I do my job quite well. One of the more respected and higher paid in my area of expertise. It's worked out swimmingly for me...

But I have to be able to work with people of the opposite gender.

As do I...I work with males all the time. I am currently the only female in my department. Even my assistant is male. Music and Films is a male dominated industry. There are actually only 6 females on my floor. We all work well together, in fact, just released a #1 movie!

We don't segregate, we just do not have one on one closed door meetings with members of the opposite sex.

We do, all the time. We think nothing of it. I'm having a closed door meeting with Alberto, our HR guy, tomorrow. Nobody will whisper about impropriety.
The American Medical Association REQUIRES a female nurse be present if requested by the patient. But most doctors do it anyway for their own protection.

Yes, if requested.
My last 3 doctor visits were GI, GYN, and GP. It never even occurred to me to ask for a female to be present. Why would it? The doctors are very professional, and wouldn't risk their livelihoods by assaulting a patient.
I do catheterizations of males all the time. I don't need to have a male attendant present.
I am a nurse though not currently working. I can tell you where I live that ALL doctors, female and male, have a female with them when examining a patient. Maybe a lot of you don't think it's a big deal. But there are reasons that this has come to pass. My OB with my very first child was weird. Back then nurses weren't required to be in the room with the doctor. I was young and naive. I was 20 when I got pregnant and had never been to the OB before then because I had one of those moms that thought if I went to the OB it would be condoning sex. When I saw this guy the first time he gave me a full exam. I didn't think much of it. Most doctors will give you an exam the first time. Again, I was young and naive. He never abused me but he often did "extra" breast exams to make sure everything was going as planned. He never did anything I could put my finger on but he creeped me out. After I had my child I left his care. I noticed he jumped from practice to practice to practice. Later on a newspaper article came out that he had raped a few young mothers. Never happened to me thank god but I understand now why they have someone in there. The only time I am alone with a doctor is when I'm fully clothed. Not because of my choosing but because that is how it is done here. Chit happens. That's why companies sometimes do thing proactively to keep them from occurring. When we did catheters there were always two people there. Just safety. And, at least in my industry, whenever they discipline you or give you a review or anything that requires you going to the office, they have a third party in the office. It's to keep people from making false claims.

I never said that majority of businesses are run that way. I said my business, and the businesses I deal with are run that way.
Same way most Dr. offices and hospitals won't let a male Dr. examine a female patient without a female nurse in the room.
It's not unheard of...
That is the law now, and a very good one. Protects everyone involved. Stupid to do it any other way. If you don't protect yourself you end up in a situation where the company has to implement policy that states you have to have a gender witness.

Well, as an attorney and knowing how litigation happy the world is, male doctors would be stupid not to have a female nurse present when doing exams on women.
And, you know darn well that is not applied in the reverse. That is the way it is, and pretending otherwise to be politically correct is silly and unrealistic.

LL is right. It is for litigation purposes. Unfortunately there have been cases to sue for.

The WORLD? Speak for yourself.
Well, of course, there are places in the World where women don't get to go to doctors, or where they have no rights to sue. If that's the kind of world you'd rather live in - have at it.

I can't think of a doctor that doesn't have a nurse present when doing an exam.
Even the kids' doctor and I've been in the room with them.
No way a doctor would set himself up for possible litigation.
Even my rheumatologist would have someone else in the room.
Shoot I can't even remember the last time I had x-rays or lab work without someone else being in there.

The only docs I have been to that have other people in the room are Ob-Gyn docs. No one else has ever had others in the room. Now, I see primarily women providers so that may have something to do with it. But my primary care doc who is female doesn't take a nurse in to see the male patients she has.

You're complaining that I nitpick, even though you grossly exaggerated. Tell you what...You're a mod.
Why don't you give me a list of Approved Things I'm Allowed to Say, and then you won't have to snarl at me after everything I post?

It will save us both some grief.
I don't tell you what to post - I just point out the ridiculousness of the posts when it is warranted. Is the problem that you don't understand phrases of expression? Do you need a lesson in American vernacular?

In any case. "the world is litigious" isn't American vernacular. It's an exaggeration.
For example we're not particularly litigious up here. If you win, you don't win much. If you lose, you have to pay for a large part of the other parties court costs.
So again...speak for yourself.
