I never had a problem with the boys and the Christmas tree. Which is weird because #2 still has grabby hands. I continued to use my swarovski & Radko ornaments every year. Of course, when the boys were toddlers I had the living room gated off and they were only allowed to look at the tree with an adult present. We put a train around the tree and they know how to turn it on/off. Always could. My tree stand is bolted down to a large piece of plywood which gives it stability so I think that helps.
Caitlyn always liked to "help decorate" the tree. Constantly.
I'd find all kinds of things in the tree. Her toys, pacifiers, food.
And she liked to move things on the tree.
So I didn't want her getting hurt .

We can't do real trees - DD is allergic to trees. Spring and fall are the worst for her. She finally gets a reprieve in the winter. But besides that, the mess and the expense...I can't find a reason to get a real one. There never seemed to be a "good side" and it was never steady in the holder. The needles were a PITA! I gave up and got a real tree the year before DD was born and I have never looked back.
We have one tree with ornaments from all over the world, and ornaments from when the kids were little. We have another tree with ornaments from my Aunt from each year we have been married. They are round pewter hand made ornaments from Wendall August Forge. Google it, they are amazing. Now we have so many that it makes a really pretty tree with white lights, burgundy ribbon and the pewter ornaments.
We have another 2 trees outside on either side of the porch with just lights and bows.
