Totally Geeked Gazette

The world did not end yesterday. Of course no one really expected it to so no real preparations were made. We had heard of a small faction in Utah attempting to hoard all the batteries and water they could find, but now we are left wondering what they are going to do with it all now.

Several of our good Geeks have moved in recent months. And that got us thinking. After the move, what do you do with all the boxes? And what was the strangest thing they found while moving? This is an ongoing investigation. We will keep you up to date as this story unfolds.

In weather, it's going to be hot in some places, cool in others. It may or may not rain. So plan accordingly.

The encouraging word for today, no matter where you go, there you are. Make the most of it.

That's all the news for now and you're up to date.

I'm still confused by how you prepare for the world to end. Clean underwear?

Well, other than having your soul right with God.  That's pretty much the only prep I need.

The only interesting thing I found when moving was a container of unknown stuff in the freezer. We couldn't decide if it was soup or dog food or leftover something...out it went, container and all.

Morning all! So I've started "postural draining" combined with percussion therapy on #2. See if that helps clear his lungs. He did sleep through the night last night. Which means we all slept through the night! I'm also pulling back on the meds he has been on since they aren't working anyway. Eventually I'll wean him off entirely, as I did with #1.

Thanks, Lily. I've tried everything else, and if the meds aren't doing squat, why be on them. F what the doctors say at this point.

 I agree.

Mom's always know more about their kids than a doctor.

I bet by now, you can pretty much diagnose them on your own for most things.

Yes, I can. And I cringe when they tell me something isn't working, but keep using it. WTF? Then they just pile on another med to "try". Something he's already tried in the past. Well, my son is not a lab rat.

Yes.  Sometimes you need to back up and try something DIFFERENT rather than just MORE.

I think this is very wise.

Postural draining uses gravity to help mucous drain from the lungs toward the mouth, instead of draining deeper into the lungs.

For those who don't know, you position the person with their hips higher than their shoulders by several inches. I've done this using pillows under the tummy and hips, shoulders and head on the mattress. Adding percussion ( carefully thumping on the back, not hard enough to cause damage or bruising) while the person is tilted, might help a lot in breaking up mucous.

Doctors do tend to keep people on medications that aren't working, maybe because they are afraid that if a person's symptoms get worse after a drug is stopped, the doctor will be blamed.

Yes, that's it, Ed. I'm not sure if it's working, as #2 hasn't noticed anything in his mouth, but he did sleep through the night and started coughing less. We do it while he watches TV so he's more relaxed and prone to lay still.

I have been focusing on the positions you use for the lower lobes, particularly the right one, since he has right middle lobe syndrome. Although this morning I added the back upper lobe position.

FNW, sounds like a good plan for your son. Use rhythmic percussion by cupping your hands as you clap on his back, it works.

We have to do that with DD's 3 year old. When he was born, amniotic fluid filled his lungs and he has recurring bouts of bronchitis. We turn him almost upside down, do the percussions on his back and he coughs bunches of junk out. At his worst, she has to give him breathing treatments to help loosen the phlegm.

Good luck and I hope it works for him. Sending prayers his way.

Seasonal allergies are knocking the dickens out of me! Ugh, this is my third day of misery.

It has taken three weeks for the allergies to knock me down, but they finally got me.

Now you know why I'm crabby, tired and down..

Yes, cupping the hands, Czech! So far I haven't seen anything come out, so I'm not sure if it's working. I do it for 5 minutes in each position. I ask him if he feels anything coming up and he says no. This morning I worked on him for 20 minutes. I got tired.

Don't worry yet about not seeing anything come up. Sometimes they swallow it without knowing what it is. Observe how much he swallows while you are doing the percussion. He may be getting rid of more than you think.

Yes, it is very tiring. Keep up the good work, momma. smile

Fnw, Praying for a speedy recovery for your son. Nothing is worse for a mom in a sick child.

My labs came back normal so I go back to the dr. Monday and he is going to refer me to a GI specialist.

Sometimes they do. When my son was about 6, he was always, always sick. We lived at the Montreal Children's Hospital, where they kept telling me he had a flu or cold. I finally put my foot down and told them I'm not leaving until they do blood work.

Turns out, he had a pretty severe case of Mono.
