Sheep have strong herding instincts. If one goes over a cliff, then others may follow. They're not actively committing suicide. In any case, I like this Pope. Big surprise, eh?
Which is exactly my point. Some false prophet comes along, and the others follow him...right off the cliff. They are too ignorant to realize what they are doing, they are following the cool kid...

Oh, come on. That 'quote' made the rounds ages ago, and was proven to be false then and it is still fake now. Much ado about nothing. O4, if anyone is a wolf in sheep's clothing doing the devils work to destroy the faith, it is people like you, and people like Lily. Your nasty additude in the name of Christianity does more harm to the image of the faith and turns more people off from it and away from God then this Pope ever could. You should see how you look from the outside. It is shameful.
My attitude is this, the Bible is a big book. You can't just teach and live by the fluff.
That's the milk of the word.
You have to teach and live by the fire and brimstone as well.
That's the meat of the word.
Now, if anyone teaches anything contrary to the word of God, it is the responsibility of the believers to point that out.
There are things in the Bible that are clearly sins that are being glossed over nowadays.
No one likes it when they are told they are doing something wrong.

Sorry, but when a church leader goes COMPLETELY against the teaching of the Bible, then I MUST call him out. People believe his drivel. A lot of what he says is incompatible with Christianity...
Oh, BS. He has condemned gay marriage and abortion, preached of the importance of giving one's self over to God, and letting faith guide your actions. How is ANY of that against the Bible? If this quote is still giving you trouble let me repeat: it is fake. Made up. Not real. Has been for months.
You use your "faith" as an excuse to be nasty with zero care for how it makes you or Christianity as whole look. Where you pretend to represent a larger cause, maybe you should pay more attention to the image you are projecting.

Well, God's love is also a part of the Bible. I grew up in a Southern Baptist church that taught fire and brimstone. Every Sunday was a sermon about some sin or other and how we were going to hell over it. Always going to hell. You want to know what I learned growing up? I learned you were going to hell no matter what you do so it didn't really matter.
I am so tired of Christians saying that we have to damn everyone to hell or we aren't doing our job.

Fire and Brimstone, Southern Baptist. It's all good memories NJN. lol!
We got to where we didn't listen half the time. He always turned really red and then began spitting. That's when we tried not to laugh. They gave us boxes of Junior Mints if we said our Bible verse in Sunday School. It was issued with the warning, "DO NOT EAT THESE IN CHURCH!" I don't think those boxes ever made it through church. I just remember our pastor, remember his name to this day, yelling and screaming and pounding the pulpit and damning us all to hell. Where we would burn in the firey depths of hell. Where we would be so parched from the fires that we couldn't even dream of water. God has damned us for all eternity.

LOL I don't need any soul searching. Thanks again for lecturing. You are always saying how people are going to hell for one reason or another. If you think that's how god works then fine. I don't. And some of the nastiest people on this board are self proclaimed "Christians".

People don't go to hell for what they do.
Although, as humans, obviously many people think others should and are actually mad that God's grace would be given so freely to EVERYONE.

No, they can't. The plain fact of the matter is that sometimes people are very blunt about people who choose not to believe will go to hell. Sometimes it is said in a not very nice way. But it is not saying "we have to damn everyone to hell." People do not have that power - Christians don't damn anyone to hell. God doesn't damn anyone to hell, either - God is has invited everyone to heaven, and it is their choice if they don't go. That is not God or anyone else damning anyone to hell.

I have heard Lily say time and again that the churches should not preach fluff or feel good messages. She has made it plain that she very much dislikes Joel Olsteen because he doesn't talk about sinning enough. My point is that if you ONLY talk about sinning, which I believe that Christians should talk about, you turn people away from god. The majority of the time, at least on this board, sin is being discussed. And how that sin will land the person in hell. My POINT, which I believe is a very valid one whether you agree or not, is that you cannot constantly talk about sin without talking about love, grace, mercy, forgiveness, and a whole other slew of things that ARE fluffy and feel good. And there is nothing wrong with talking about that aspect of god. You cannot attract sinners to god by telling them that their behavior is going to land them in hell. Whether you want to admit it or not people don't respond to that. So the message of god is good, loving, kind, caring, forgiving, and all those other things are NOT fluff and feel good. They play a major role in being a Christian. Or trying to be one. It is tiring hearing about how fluff and feel good messages are not necessary. Argue with me all day long but love is just as much a part of the Bible as sin. I mean, let's look at probably the most important verse in the Bible. Or at least the one most people know the best. John 3:16-For god so loved the world that he sent his only son so that we shall have everlasting life. Right there is the crux of Christianity. And it's all about love. It's all about feeling good because god loves us. Now before you say I don't think sin should be talked about go back and reread. I do. But when that becomes all you talk about things start going wrong.

You didn't actually have one except to blame Lily for all the ills of the church.
I did not blame Lily for all the ills of the world. I am simply stating that the "fluff" is just as important as the other stuff. If not more.

My only point is that I very much disagree. That is what I have said from the first post I put here. I don't agree that one is more important than the other. Learning fire and brimstone alone will not give you the message of love.
But again, I don't know why you can't understand what I post. I have said over and over and over again, the fluff is just as important.

I think the problem with only preaching about the fluffy things in the Bible is that it sends a message that if you live a good life and do good, you will go to Heaven. That's simply false. We are required to turn from our sin and seek God in all we do. You don't get into Heaven via good works. You get into Heaven via making Jesus your Lord and Savior. Also, only preaching the fluffy stuff ignores sin and gives the impression that our sin isn't important as long as we do good.
All of the Bible needs to be preached. Especially the non-PC parts given today's world.
Fire and brimstone (or, alternatively, brimstone and fire, translated from the Hebrew גפרית ואש) is an idiomatic expression of signs of God's wrath in the Hebrew Bible (Old Testament) and the New Testament. In the Bible, they often appear in reference to the fate of the unfaithful. "Brimstone", the archaic name for sulfur,[1] evokes the acrid odor of volcanic activity. The term is also used, sometimes pejoratively, to describe a style of Christian preaching that uses vivid descriptions of judgment and eternal damnation to encourage repentance.
Fluff-something of no consequence. Example, This book is pure fluff, but so fun to read.
Maybe Lily means something else. But when she specifically types out fire and brimstone what comes to mind for me is the definition given above. One of wrath, judgment, and eternal damnation. So maybe Lily MEANS something else but she specifically states hell fire and brimstone. Then she says fluff. Describing the other part of the Bible as fluff. Again, HER words. The definition of fluff means of no consequences. So again, maybe she MEANS different than she states but her exact post used the words fluff and hell fire and brimstone. I very much disagree that the hell fire and brimstone part should be of more importance than the "fluff" part. Because, IMO, the love of god is not fluff.

That is VASTLY different than saying that the Christians on here are always damning people to hell. VASTLY different. If you want to make a valid point--then don't state it the way you did in your first attempt.
Beyond that, MANY posts on here do talk about sin. If you want to start a forgiveness and love post, we could talk about that, as well.

The fluff, the milk, is the easy stuff. The stuff you need for building the foundation.
The fire and brimstone, the meat, is the tougher to digest parts but you need to hear it to continue to grow.
You don't give a baby meat. You give them the milk till they are ready for the meat.
Neither is less or more important. They are equal.

He preaches to rely on yourself rather than God.
And then there is the money he rakes in by the truck loads.
