TOPIC: Love that will break your heart: 92-year-old man serenades his dying wife with a love song in tear-jerking video
Many people assume that romance fades as couples grow older, but a heartbreaking video of an elderly man singing to his dying wife shows that for some, love lasts a lifetime.
In the tender clip, uploaded to Facebook by the pair's granddaughter Erin Solari, 92-year-old Howard is seen serenading his dying wife, 93-year-old Laura, with Rosemary Clooney's version of the 1940s love song You'll Never Know.
'Love you... always have,' Laura, who is blind and in her final days of hospice care, tells her husband in the video - before asking him to 'behave' when she's gone
her social media accounts, Erin revealed intimate details of her grandparents inspiring relationship.
She said Howard chose to sing You'll Never Know to his wife because 'the song that comforted her when he went away to fight in World War II.
'At family gatherings, it was not uncommon for the two of them to sing this song together, each taking a verse and serenading the other,' shared Erin.
Erin went on to write that 'after fifty years of marriage, they renewed their vows and performed this song as a duet for the entire family at the reception.' The couple's granddaughter said Laura is now 'too weak to sing,' but said that didn't stop her from saying the song's lyrics to her husband.
At the beginning of the video, Laura is heard uttering a line from the ballad - 'A million times or more' - before Howard takes over and serenades her.
Howard, who has lost most of his hearing, is seen wiping away tears from his eyes as he sings to his beloved wife.
At the end of the song, Howard kisses Laura and she thanks him for singing to her, as a family member helps him sit down beside her bed. Erin further revealed in her post that her grandma has macular degeneration, which means she cannot see much of anything except for shadows and light, going on to note that this didn't stop her from staring directly into Howard's eyes as he sang to her.
She also said that when Howard entered the hospital room, Laura immediately 'asked if she could hold him.'
The couple's granddaughter went on to reveal that after she posted the sweet video, her grandma was deemed 'well enough to go back home to live out her remaining few days,' and currently still alive and 'resting peacefully at home
