I've got charges on my account I don't remember making.

And I can't get a real person on the phone to see what is going on.

If I report make card lost or stolen, will it immediately freeze my account?

Yes it will. The sooner you call and report it the better. Also, keep trying to get a person on the phone - they will connect you with the fraud department and you should be able to go transaction by transaction and tell them which are legit and which are not.

I reported it lost/stolen.

It's Sunday and all I am getting is automated services.

I will call in the morning.

I had to go to the bank Friday because my card wasn't working.

They said my spending limit had been lowered to a dollar.

They had no clue unless it was from 2 weeks ago when there was a possible fraud alert.

We thought we figured it out.

There are about 20 transactions, some I remember and some I dont.

The ones I remember are from the day of Caitlyn's birthday.

I gased up my car, we had dinner at Olive Garden. The boys got a breakfast burrito on the way to school that morning.

The rest, I have no clue.

One charge is for $60 at a gas station across town.

I don't remember the last time I was at that station and it hasn't cost $60 to fill my car in months.

Sounds like someone cloned your card.

Did you call the number on the back of the card? And you can't get a live person???

That's really bad customer service. Can you tell us what company  / bank it is?

The number on the card is the same as the bank number for customer service.

 That's what I'm thinking.

Well. It's reported now. If they try to use it now, they won't be able to.

I'm just glad I gased the van and got groceries yesterday.

They will open a new account and send you a new card. You probably have to sign for it.

I get hacked every year or two. Amex usually notifies me. They can tell when it's not my usual charges.

My purchases have been pretty spread out lately.

So do we. It's almost no big deal now, we have done it so many times.

I think it's her debit card, not a credit card. The bank is closed, so she isn't getting anyone.

Oh, oh. Lily I hope you come out of this with no loss of $$$ and not a lot of inconvenience.... I do not know much about debit cards (use a credit card if I use anything). Hope the bank will reimburse you or that the card is covered by some kind of insurance. Good luck.

You are never liable for charges you do not make - even on your debit card. She will get her money back, but it will take a few days.

Not always.  They have to have an investigation and PROVE that it wasn't you.

Good to hear that. A few days of waiting vs a loss. I would take the waiting anytime.

It has happened to us a few times and the fraud department was always able to look at the charges and determine it was fraud right away - like while I was on the phone with them. Admittedly, Lily's experience may vary but typically they can see a pattern and can tell right away what's bogus.

I've had it happen twice. Once I called right away and I got my money back. I had to wait a couple days but I got it all back. The second time I got a very small portion of the money back.

I would not do business with the bank that didn't refund your money. That isn't cool at all. Sorry that happened to you!

My debit card is also a credit card. So I am reprehensible for only $50.

I don't anymore.  Well, that is not one hundred percent true.  I have a debit card to them that my child support comes on.  The day it comes I go and withdraw it and deposit it into my other bank account at a different bank.

I do not use my debit card anywhere they have to take it away from me. If I can't see it - I use a credit card. I do not want to have to deal with having my bank account emptied and then fighting to get the money back. Fighting a charge on a credit card is much easier.

I don't have a credit card.

Although my debit can be used as a credit card.

Then you should get one or start using cash where people would take your card away.  If you don't have the credit for a credit card - get a secured credit card.

I finally got it straightened out this morning.

The fraudulent charges originated in Houston Texas.

Almost $400.

I will get that back.

So relieved. I've been hanging on to what I could to get the kids Christmas.

Got a new card on the way.
