People say Christians aren't persecuted. People get offended when a Christian speaks out against the assault on religious freedom. Yet, people died today BECAUSE they're Christian.

Christians on this board have been called Chicken Little and other rude names when we point out violence against Christians and assaults on Christians' religious freedom. Those name callers now have egg on their faces. Being Christian was a death sentence for some people today. Yet, we get accused of having a 'sky is falling' mentality.

You don't know the "Why" of that. I heard it wasn't released because they first wanted to check his home and car for explosives, etc. You don't know the "why" of why they withheld that. But, sorry, the names are going to come out one way or another. And, in America we expect transparency. Trying to hide who the criminal is will only further fuel that type of thing. The Douglas County sheriff says he will never utter the name of the man responsible for the deadly attack at Umpqua Community College and has called on news media to do the same.

"Let me be very clear: I will not name the shooter." Sheriff John Hanlin said during a Thursday night briefing at a fire station near the Roseburg campus. "I will not give him credit for this horrific act of cowardice."

He encouraged the news media and community to "avoid using it, repeating it, or engaging in any glorification and sensationalization of him.

"He in no way deserves it," he said. "Focus your attention on the victims and their families and helping them to recover."

People have a right to know WHO. And, they will know. You aren't going to suppress that information. It is going to come out. Yes, I agree. Name the shooter. But, yes, focus on the victims and the heroes of this. However, evil people are going to emulate evil. That is very unfortunate.

How are we going to stop this? Cho killed 32 students at Virginia Tech in 8 minutes with 2 handguns. What measures do you all propose that would stop this? I would gladly rid the world of guns if that was possible but it is not. And, I don't believe that taking guns away from law abiding is the answer.

Yes, because they have nothing else. I agree. We could make concerted efforts to NOT publish all the details of their lives, etc. Will that help? I don't know. I do agree, let's focus on the victims and the heroes who ended this and those who took a bullet to protect another.

I really don't consider this a blaze of glory and I'm pretty sure most of the population agrees with me. Most... but unfortunately not all.

As to the first part of your question... what happens to this guy? He's dead. Nothing more to it.

Even if everyone was armed that still won't stop it. There is always the element of surprise. People aren't going about their lives thinking there is a mass shooter around every corner. The best you can hope is that you can meet fire with fire and stop it.

Because our nature is to excel. To take things further. It is a nation of rugged individualists and self reliancy. So, we tend to go to extremes. It has served us well when we go to extremes in productivity or doing good in the world. But, the same nature becomes corrupted.
