That's a tough question, partly because of the curious American belief that "I MUST OWN GUNS."

That's a mindset I just don't understand.

I think, going forward, tougher laws MIGHT help, but I fear we are going to be grappling with this issue for a long time.

I don't see it as a curious "American Belief" this MUST own guns, I see it as my right and yours if you wanted to, to own a gun. and along with that come responsibility for it. But the GUN is not what kills people, the person holding it and misusing the gun is at fault.

I had no experience with guns growing up...not family or friends, etc.

This board has opened my eyes to a certain fanaticism about guns.

The GUN, in the hands of a SHOOTER, certainly does kill people.

And people weren't fanatical about guns until others wanted to keep them from having them. I grew up with guns, as did everyone I know. We never even thought about them. They just were. The fanatics came out when people started saying they should be illegal. That's what happens when you try to take away someone's rights. They start doing what's necessary to protect those rights...

Almost every weekend. Especially at the lake. We target shoot. And G hunts every weekend that he's not fishing or playing. Deer, turkey, dove, ducks.

I know that when push came to shove, and these "guns are bad" people got into a situation in which there was an attacker with Any kind of weapon, the first thing they would want to know is where were the ones with guns to shoot the bad guy.

Owning a gun is a Right. It is a long standing measure to do two things : 1 allow the people to protect themselves, ie. keep the government in check, intruders and so forth, and 2 provide food.

The RIGHT to own guns should not be up for debate.

But like everything else, the real issue of mental illness and ability to know how and when to use them is left untouched.

Calling to ban guns is a knee jerk reaction. An emotional reaction.

We don't need either of those in law making.

Owning a gun is a Right.

Once you take that away, the country you live in will cease to exist. It will become a chaotic nation owned by both the government and the criminals.
