Got to the school to pick up my boys and find it surrounded by police and tactical teams and fire and ambulance.
Where I come in, I could see the stadium was full of kids.
I pull down to the officer directing traffic and ask if it is a drill or something serious.
He looks me in the eye and says "suspicious package and possible weapon. Find a place to park up here. We will let you know something when we can."
Yeah. That just happened.
Thankfully we are now home, no one was hurt.
But the school was still being cleared. No one was allowed to go back in for anything. Kids were released from the stadium.
Buses were loading in the four lane road in front of the school, away from the school.
Crazy I tell ya.

I was able to get a hold of Jesse on the phone. He was with Aaron. So I knew quickly they were ok.

It would have been worse to get there, the stadium be empty and the police not saying anything.
And not kidding. I had Jesse on the phone in less than 5 minutes after I got there.
The school handles these things rather well.
And yes. We have armed police in our schools.
The principal called. The school was cleared and the device was removed. Right now, it's nothing.

Northwest Whitfield High evacuated due to suspicious package

WHITFIELD COUNTY, GA (WRCB) -
Students at Northwest Whitfield County High School were evacuated Monday afternoon after a suspicious package was found on campus.
Eric Beavers, spokesperson for Whitfield County Schools, says the school's emergency plan was followed and all the students were moved to the football field and were dismissed according to the usual schedule.
Student drivers with keys inside the building will be leaving late. They must wait for law enforcement to clear the building.
Authorities are investigating the package.
