The important thing is what you have WITH the chili.

I like corn bread. Not sweet corn bread. Real, regular corn bread.

But crackers can be good too.

And then are toppings.

Cheese, onions, sour cream, peppers.

Pairings.

I live a sandwich with it sometimes.

Simple cheese is good.

But a peanut butter sandwich is good too.

Yes! Corn bread for sure! But I gotta have brown sugar on my corn bread. I will take a chunk of cornbread and put it in a cup and then pour chili over it.

Crackers are ok. No sour cream! Ack. And, definitely not a sandwich. A couple slices of butter bread is good or saltines.

Corn bread is good with chili. I make corn breadsticks with my chili. In my part of the country, we also sometimes serve it with fry bread. yum.

No sour cream here, maybe some chopped scallions as a topping, or grated cheese.

A grilled cheese sandwich goes well with a nice bowl of chili.

No to the sour cream. No to the peanut butter. Cornbread in my cast iron cornbread pan. It makes pretty little cornbread triangles. We just top ours with a smidge of shredded cheese.

You ever put a spoon of peanut butter in the chili while it's cooking?

It's good.

You don't taste it.

It's like adding coffee grounds to brownie mix.

Just enhances the flavors.

Um, no. And that does not sound appetizing to me. Sorry. I would not want coffee grounds in my brownies either.

I'm with NJN, no to the coffee grounds in my brownies, and, at first thought, no to the peanut butter in my chili, but after thinking about it, I can see where it made add a little something.

But I don't want coffee grounds in my brownies, tyvm.

It's an old trick.

You've probably had it at some point and just didn't know it.

It's instant coffee most of the time. But using that last bit of brewed coffee in mixes is not new.

And the peanut butter in chili makes a huge difference. Helps thicken it up and adds a depth of flavor like you wouldn't believe.

Yes. That is my secret ingredient. It isn't a secret now.

You should try the coffee in anything chocolate. Cake, brownies, pie. It really is good.

Let me ask, do you like the mocha in your coffee?

Or any of the chocolate flavored creams?

If a little chocolate makes coffee good.

Why wouldn't a little coffee make chocolate good?

Ingredients
  •
    1 pound unsalted butter
  •
1 pound plus 12 ounces semisweet chocolate chips
  •
    6 ounces unsweetened chocolate
  •
    6 extra-large eggs
  •
    3 tablespoons instant coffee granules
  •
    2 tablespoons pure vanilla extract
  •
    2 1/4 cups sugar
  •
    1 1/4 cups all-purpose flour

    1 teaspoon salt
  •
    3 cups chopped walnuts

There is just one recipe. It's really good.

Ingredients

  • 1/3 cup dark cocoa powder
  • 1/3 cup regular cocoa powder
  • 1 and 1/2 cup sugar
  • 1/2 cup powdered sugar
  • 3/4 tsp salt
  • 1 cup all purpose flour
  • 2 tsp espresso powder (for more coffee flavor, double this amount)
  • 1 cup chocolate chips, chunks, nuts or even chocolate covered espresso beans
  • 1/3 cup coffee flavored yogurt
  • 3 large eggs, room temperature
  • 1/3 cup vegetable oil
  • 2 tsp vanilla
  • 2 tbsp brewed coffee (make sure it has cooled slightly, warm is okay, but you do not want it hot)

Instructions

Preheat oven to 350 degrees F.

In a large bowl, combine cocoas, sugars, salt, flour, espresso powder and mix ins. Add in yogurt, eggs, vegetable oil, vanilla and coffee. Stir until just combined, do not overmix.

Scoop batter into an 8x8 or 9x9 pan that has been lightly sprayed with cooking spray. I prefer to line my pan with foil, then spray the foil, as this makes it easy to remove the brownies from the pan, slice and serve.

Bake for approximately 35 minutes for an 9x9" pan or 45 minutes for an 8x8" pan. To check if they are done, place a knife or toothpick into the center. When you pull it out, it should still be a little moist, but starting to bake up.

Remove from oven an allow to cool in pan for at least 30 minutes. Serve and enjoy!

Okay, you do realize that instant coffee granules and espresso beans are two vastly different things than coffee grounds?

Yes. That's why I said what I did in the next post.

That it was instant or brewed coffee.

I don't drink coffee. I misspoke.

Better get a tall tree and a short rope.

It's good!

I wasn't being all pissy. I was just asking if you knew the difference. I wouldn't eat coffee grounds but I have made recipes with the instant coffee granules. Many times in fact. And as for the espresso beans I wouldn't eat them. I've had them before and I'm just not a big fan. Some people really love them though.

Me too. I can see adding instant coffee or brewed coffee, but not coffee grounds.

I'm good with coffee in my brownies or in my chili. The coffee grounds, no thank you.
