People think they live in a vacuum. Yes, you DO have the right to a lot of things. Even be an azzhole. You can hang up scary decorations, or frighten people, or make things graphic. Totally within your rights. But other people exist around you too. I just think consideration for others should come into play.

We had a family in the nieghborhood that went all out, and the guy would really scare people. We saw him sitting there pretending to be a decoration the first time we took the kids around, we were like, "oooooh, this is really spooky to TWO YEAR OLDS". He heard us and made sure not to scare them. He was having fun being spooky and being nice at the time.

I can explain it to you, but I can't understand it for you.
I almost punched a guy out once cause he scared my kids. They were little and at the mall doing the trick or treat rounds.
I saw him scaring the older kids. They liked it. It was fun.
But when Caitlyn, 4 at the time, got closes enough, he reached out and grabbed at her and the boys, who were in the stroller.
If he hadn't grabbed at her, I probably would have laughed it off.
All three kids were screaming. We had to leave after that.

Last year a little tiny girl got scared by something I had up. I don't even remember what it was. I don't put up anything really scary. I felt bad for her.

There were people in my Grandparents' neighborhood that did that. They'd do a living graveyard every year. Most of the family would pretend to be decorations then chase you when you came up the walk. Scared the crap out of me the first year I experienced it. I refused to give a reaction on subsequent years.
Sorry, but I am not going to waste my time who might be OFFENDED over everything I do. You simply cannot live your life worrying about The OFFENDED. Now, that doesn't mean people have to go out of their way to offend people. But, sometimes it's gonna happen. Deal with it!
We decorate our house at Halloween but nothing extravagant. We put pumpkins out. We have some tombstones, crosses, spiderwebs with spiders, and some fake bats. DS put up a Danger: Zombie Zone sign. He also put up orange Danger tape. But that's it. Nothing really scary.

We don't gather the leaves till after Halloween. The crunch under your feet can't be duplicated.
And we have some pretty large spiders that come down from the trees and leave webs. We leave those alone till after Halloween.
We do the Jacko lanterns.
One year, I stuffed an old pair of work pants and work shirt and sat it on the front porch with work boots and gloves. No head.
It wasn't gory at all.
But everyone in the neighborhood came to see it. Even the guys across the street at the county work barn brought their kids out to see it.
I have always wanted to hide pumpkin head in the bushes on this side of the fence by the walking trail. But that's not my property so I wont.

But there is a HUGE difference between grabbing a person--and putting up some decorations on your own, private property.
I agree about the "vacuum" point, though. People think they are the only ones that matter and no one has a right to ever do something they don't like. It doesn't work that way. They are under no requirement to take your (general your) kids into consideration when they put up Halloween decorations.

Well, I could agree with you--but then we'd both be wrong.
That was indeed tasteless. But I don't think it was a case of "it's too soon". There's never a good time to disrespect the image of a US soldier like was done there.

Oh, ok. lol. But, again, you can't NOT offend everyone. There are people who are "offended" by the concept of Halloween period. Some schools have cancelled Halloween fun.
