Ed, you have a lot of pent up anger and hate for Christians.
Only when people tell me and my children that we're going to burn in the fires of Hell forever because we don't follow the teachings of their church.
What do you care? Muslims believe I'm going to hell. So what? or aren't you confident in what you believe?
And aren't your children middle aged?

Me too. Except for the fact that they went after my little kids in the back yard once and told them they were going to burn in the fires of Hell for Eternity.
Was that rude?
JW generally don't believe in a Hell.

Yeah, I call BS on this one too. JW's don't believe in hell. So either they weren't JW or there's some fabrication goin on round here...
Jehovah's Witnesses do not believe that there is a soul that survives the death of the body. We believe that, at death, a person ceases to exist, since the body simply returns to the "dust". (Genesis 3:17-19) This makes sense if you think about people who have brain damage (a damaged body): their consciousness is affected by this. Our consciousness is not an independent system from our body that mysteriously survives the death of the body. God created the first man and woman to have a physical body formed from the "dust". (Genesis 2:7) This is different from the angels he created which are spirits. (Ezekiel 3:12) God is also a spirit. (John 4:24)
Jehovah's Witnesses don't believe in hellfire as it would not represent divine justice from a loving God. (1 John 4:8) He wants us to serve him out of love, not fear of torture. (2 Corinthians 9:7) Some who die will receive a resurrection, but some will not. If God sees that someone has already shown that there is no chance they will conform to his righteous standards, he will simply leave them in a state of non-existence. (Matthew 5:30) They have already paid for their sins with death, and he has no desire to torture them. Those whom God chooses to preserve in his memory will at a future time receive a resurrection to life on this earth. (John 5:28, 29) They will be given a new body that will be perfect and not die over time. (Revelation 21:4) In the meantime they are simply "asleep" in death, resting safely in God's memory. (John 11:11-14; Acts 7:60)

I agree. They have a pretty warped take on the Bible. I just posted to show that JW don't believe in Hell. Ed must have come across some rouge JWs...

Nope.
Got really good at proving their points stupid.

My thing is the bitterness. Geesh people - you live in a society with differing beliefs. GET OVER IT, already. How long you going to nurse a grudge?

"Forcing"??? Forcing is holding a gun to someone's head and making them confess your beliefs.
Handing out a few pamphlets is not "forcing".
Plus, we were talking about the government and what they were doing to "force" religion (NOTHING). You can't seriously mean that freedom of speech should be outlawed if people talk about religion.

I was referring more to enacting laws that are inline with Christian belief, but have no other legitimate basis, like the Defense Of Marriage Act. That was 100% religious in nature, and was Christians forcing our beliefs on others.
Or Christians that bring their beliefs into their government job, and only perform the duties of that job that they believe are inline with their beliefs.

BS. That was a response to gay marriage which was the gay marriage movement forcing their beliefs on everyone else.
What was the "change" in the law with the DOMA?? Nothing. The change has been gay marriage.

Lawyerlady was saying "Geesh people - you live in a society with differing beliefs. GET OVER IT, already."
I wanted to know if that advice applied to Christians as well. That's why I asked, after quoting her, "Does that apply to those of us that are Christian as well? Or should Christians be allowed to steamroller over anything we disagree with? Should we accept differing beliefs or try and force our beliefs on others?"
I don't see Muslims going to jail because they won't deliver alcohol.
I don't see other religions being sued because they won't bake a cake, perform an abortion or have people want to shut them up in their own places of worship.
All of that is only happening to the Christian.

Someone is trying to shut people up in their own places of worship? Who is trying to shut you up at church?
We had a thread just about a week ago about a woman who moved into a new place a realized there was a church across the road. She didn't like what was being peaches in the church and the services they were having and she wanted them to stop.
That is just one example of trying to shut people up in their own places of worship.

???? Don't you ever watch or read the news? The mayor of Houston ordered several pastors to turn in their sermons to her because she wanted to prosecute them under some hate speech ordinance she got passed. Luckily a court threw it out--but she tried, and she's a high ranking official from a major U.S. city.

Have YOU ever heard of the Johnson Amendment? In your very own Constitution?
If churches want to preserve their tax-free status, they have to eschew political organizing.

First of all--you are ignorant. There is NO SUCH amendment in the Constitution.
Now, if you are talking about the 1954 amendment to the tax code--you are still ignorant. That says that church BODIES may not endorse or oppose political CANDIDATES. It does NOT apply to individual church members, to stances by the church body on political issues, NOR does it apply to what pastors may say from the pulpit.
It CERTAINLY does not give the Houston mayor the power to force pastors to turn in their sermons (and it wasn't even the basis by which she wanted to force that, anyway) and the court ruled against her.
You better just quit commenting on U.S. political issues. You are out of your league.
