My A3 gets great gas mileage. It's turning out to be a disappointing car overall, though. My Altima got pretty good mileage, but it was so loud that it gave me headaches. The VW golf is pretty much the same car as the A3 and we have friends who love theirs. I will say that it is super fun to drive. I'm already looking to the next car. We are thinking Honda, Acura, or infinity. Bear in mind that I am spoiled rotten when it comes to cars.

The car insurance company covers our rental for up to 30 days. They said today that it should take approx 3 days to have the car assessed and an adjuster call us and finalize everything.
highlander is an excellent choice--smaller but just as solid, RAV4--you drive a lot so reliability / low maintenance cost / comfort should be just as (if not more) important than fuel economy only

I haven't seen a RAV4 Hybrid. Is that on the market?

currently because my idiot husband wrecked our Nissan. So now we only have a Scion XD which is my car. But he will soon be driving that and I will get a new to me one. I am thinking 2012ish model year.
i'm trying to come up with a list of cars I want to test drive / go look at this weekend. Then the following weekend I can do my research, have my cash ready and go buy something. Luckily living in LA their are tons of places to buy a car, so I am not worried about getting what I want once I figure it out.
I haven't because I've always been wary of American unless its a work truck. I'm sure that its mostly bias.
I have a 2009 Mercury Mariner with almost 90K miles on it. That is the same car as the Escape just with nicer details. I haven't had a problem with it, yet.
Plus, I like Ford b/c they did not take government handout money. When the recession hit, they handled it right.

I can explain it to you, but I can't understand it for you.
i want to test a used Toyota Matrix and a Subaru hatchback. I don't think we can quite afford the Outback that I really want. I'd like to only spend around 15k, but we are a bit flexible.
Anybody drive one of these: 2015 Mazda Mazda5 Sport
No. But I had a Mazda MPV and the "MPV" stood for "multi problem vehicle". I'll never buy a mazda again. When I took it to the dealer to find out why it always smelled like oil, they found 19 pin prick oil leaks in my engine - and it was only 6 years old.

Please consider and test drive a Highlander (or hybrid) before you decide.
I don't want a highlander, but thanks! The Prius V is a hybrid.
I know, I've been driving a Prius for 5 years, after 3 years with a Highlander Hybrid.
All I'm suggesting is that, before you buy a Prius, you test drive a hybrid that has excellent all-around visibility.
Maybe I should post some pictures from the driver's seat of the Prius, showing the huge blind spots in the left front and (especially) the right front.
