Children Made To Cook And Clean For Migrants For School Project
Permalink

A school in Germany has asked its students to cook and clean for migrants at an asylum centre as part of “practical work experience”. Parents are furious that children will be changing bed linen and working in the kitchens at an asylum system, calling it “servitude”.

Parents were told about the school project in a letter, which was then posted to Facebook. The parent who posted it wrote:

“I am definitely not a hater and am really tolerant, but this is taking things too far. Is there a new subject in Lübeck’s schools called servitude?”

The post now has over 2,000 shares and 1,000 comments, many of them asking why the migrants cannot make their own beds and do their own cooking.

Initially many thought it was a joke, but local newspaper SHZ got in touch with the school who then confirmed it was real.

Kiel’s Ministry for Education confirmed that 13 to 14-year-olds from a school in Lübeck will changing bed linen, helping in the kitchen and sorting clothes. A spokeswoman said that the school had the idea because some migrant children sit in the class, and insisted the students themselves thought of the project.

The school project comes as Germans try to deal with the large number of migrants who are now being housed in towns across the country.

Last week, a village was accused of racism after producing a list of basic guidelines for migrants to observe. Advice issued by Hardheim includes learning the German language, paying for groceries and not entering private property.

It also mentioned that women “have the same rights as men” and that migrants should refrain from making sexual advances on “young women” in the town.

Breitbart London has also reported how one think tank has said Germans will have to retire later, and possibly even scrap the minimum wage, to pay for the large migrant influx.

Hans-Werner Sinn, president of the Ifo institute said that with more people coming to Germany “we’d better raise the retirement age to feed them”, adding that abolishing the minimum wage will allow firms to hire more low-skilled workers.

Another side-effect of interfering and "nation building". We should have helped the tyrants stay in power in Iraq and Syria.

Wouldn't that also be "interfering"?

I don't see the big deal. Most schools now have some sort of community service as part of earning grad. credits.

And would it really hurt if a kid learn to think about someone else now and then?

Mark 10:43-45

But it shall not be so among you. But whoever would be great among you must be your servant, and whoever would be first among you must be slave of all. For even the Son of Man came not to be served but to serve, and to give his life as a ransom for many.”

Philippines 2:3-5

Do nothing from rivalry or conceit, but in humility count others more significant than yourselves. Let each of you look not only to his own interests, but also to the interests of others. Have this mind among yourselves, which is yours in Christ Jesus,

1 Peter 5:5

Likewise, you who are younger, be subject to the elders. Clothe yourselves, all of you, with humility toward one another, for “God opposes the proud but gives grace to the humble.”

And that is just 3 reasons why.

Why servitude is a good thing. Even commanded.

And why we shouldn't have an attitude that we are better than anyone. No matter their economic status.

They can change their own damn linens.

Personally, through out church, we give to the poor. Of our time, and our service. We cook meals to donate to the homeless shelter. We donate our clothing. We put money in the extra collection during Mass. My boys bring food in to their religious education classes to feed the homeless. We make casseroles to feed the homeless during the frigid winter. The boys learn to help others in need. But they also learn to be independent and do for themselves. These migrants need to be taught to do for themselves as well.

There are lots of ways you can teach children to serve others that does not involve this type of nonsense. They could work in a food kitchen and serve the hungry, for one.

Doing someone's housework who is fully capable of doing it themselves isn't teaching them to help the needy, it's teaching them to resent migrants.

With Germany's history and continued private attitudes (yes, I have been there and seen the attitudes) this remains a good idea, IMHO.

For all we know, the migrants may be out looking for work or actually working the odd hours no one else will work.

I see nothing wrong with this, especially since it was the kids idea in the first place.

No way in hell I would allow my teenage DAUGHTER in a camp with men that had to be reminded that women have rights, too.

The migrant camps, btw, where grown women are afraid to walk anywhere because they are getting raped.

You do realize you are arguing against doing God's teachings.

And you don't know these adults are sitting and doing nothing.

It's as if anytime helping others is mentioned, you want to run them down.

Why is that?

And you may know the Bible cover to cover. But it is useless if you don't live it.

Yes, changing sheets is a bit much, I think. But providing comfort. Seems like a good way to see how some other people live and may just be a good experience for their future life. Never hurts to get out of your comfort zone and see what is going on in other areas - even for children.

 I agree.

My parents were far from strict when I was growing up but I remember being surprised when I told my mom I was applying to work as a housekeeper at a hotel and she said no way.

The Parable of the Ten Virgins

25 “At that time the kingdom of heaven will be like ten virgins who took their lamps and went out to meet the bridegroom. 2 Five of them were foolish and five were wise. 3 The foolish ones took their lamps but did not take any oil with them. 4 The wise ones, however, took oil in jars along with their lamps. 5 The bridegroom was a long time in coming, and they all became drowsy and fell asleep.

6 “At midnight the cry rang out: ‘Here’s the bridegroom! Come out to meet him!’

7 “Then all the virgins woke up and trimmed their lamps. 8 The foolish ones said to the wise, ‘Give us some of your oil; our lamps are going out.’

9 “‘No,’ they replied, ‘there may not be enough for both us and you. Instead, go to those who sell oil and buy some for yourselves.’

10 “But while they were on their way to buy the oil, the bridegroom arrived. The virgins who were ready went in with him to the wedding banquet. And the door was shut.

11 “Later the others also came. ‘Lord, Lord,’ they said, ‘open the door for us!’

12 “But he replied, ‘Truly I tell you, I don’t know you.’

13 “Therefore keep watch, because you do not know the day or the hour.

Proverbs 13:4 ESV

The soul of the sluggard craves and gets nothing, while the soul of the diligent is richly supplied.

2 Thessalonians 3:10-12 ESV
For even when we were with you, we would give you this command: If anyone is not willing to work, let him not eat. For we hear that some among you walk in idleness, not busy at work, but busybodies. Now such persons we command and encourage in the Lord Jesus Christ to do their work quietly and to earn their own living.

Proverbs 14:23 ESV

In all toil there is profit, but mere talk tends only to poverty.

Proverbs 12:24 ESV

The hand of the diligent will rule, while the slothful will be put to forced labor

1 Timothy 5:8 ESV /

But if anyone does not provide for his relatives, and especially for members of his household, he has denied the faith and is worse than an unbeliever

Proverbs 6:6-8 ESV
Go to the ant, O sluggard; consider her ways, and be wise. Without having any chief, officer, or ruler, she prepares her bread in summer and gathers her food in harvest

2 Timothy 2:6 ESV
It is the hard-working farmer who ought to have the first share of the crops.

Proverbs 6:10-12 ESV
A little sleep, a little slumber, a little folding of the hands to rest, and poverty will come upon you like a robber, and want like an armed man. A worthless person, a wicked man, goes about with crooked speech,

Proverbs 12:11 ESV

Whoever works his land will have plenty of bread, but he who follows worthless pursuits lacks sense.

So it's just the sheet changing that is a sticking point?

So folding laundry is ok?

Sweeping, mopping, cooking and cleaning is ok? Even if it means cleaning bathrooms.

But to take a sheet off of a bed and put a clean one on is a sticking point?

And the article said asylum system. So I'm thinking large area with rows of single beds.

You do realize you are arguing against doing God's teachings.

And you don't know these adults are sitting and doing nothing.

It's as if anytime helping others is mentioned, you want to run them down.

Why is that?

And you may know the Bible cover to cover. But it is useless if you don't live it.

No, we are not.  These are not needy widows and orphans.  They are perfectly capable people able to do their own damn chores.

And I am not saying otherwise.

But that doesn't change what I said. What the Bible says.

Love your neighbor. Treat others with compassion. Serve others as if you are serving God.

It doesn't have the catch word "unless" attached to it.

We simply do not know these people are doing nothing.

Chances are this will be a learning opportunity for everyone involved.

The migrants learn customs, language and make a few friends. The kids learn gratitude, humility and they make a few friends.

I just don't see what the big deal is.

That is, unless a person thinks their child is too good, better than the ones they would be helping.

And you are ignoring all the verses Gaga has posted.  You've also ignored all the news reports of rape and child abuse in these camps.  You can send your child, mine would NOT be going.

Not ignoring any of it.

They verses don't fit. Because they are about being lazy and not preparing or staying vigilant.

The story of the virgins is about staying ready for God's return.

And in no part of the article does it say these people sit and do nothing.

That is an assumption.

As for the articles, I am sure some of those places are terrible. Perhaps that is part of the lesson.

I highly doubt there would be no supervision.

If it is done as a class, I doubt they would be anywhere alone.
