“You may shoot me with your words, you may cut me with your eyes, you may kill me with your hatefulness, but still, like air, I'll rise!” ― Maya Angelou
The letter writer said the parents avoid him and don't want to touch him.
Reminds me of a time some friends went on a canoe and camping trip. There were four of them, a "couple" and then a single guy and girl who were friends. The couple stayed in a tent together and the friends stayed in another tent as friends. Apparently, the male "friend" thought female was asleep and decided to pleasure himself while in his sleeping bag. Female friend was not asleep. Anyhow, male friend never washed his hands.
Maybe the Dad accidently caught him jerking off somewhere, with or without the husband's awareness, and noticed he never washed his hands. Or even not washing his hands after using the toilet. Mom could know because there were no towels or noticed the soap wasn't wet or something. That could make the parents react differently towards him without needing to tell the daughter about it.
Loonatic I was thinking along similar lines. Last summer a male childhood friend of mine was in town for his aunt's funeral. He asked if he could stay with me. I was happy to visit with him. Then I noticed he never washed his hands after using the bathroom. It really ooged me out. He made dinner one night & I really didn't want to eat it.
