I think propagating the notion that all women have a hymen in the first place or that having it is evidence of one's "virginity" is very disturbing. And, I don't find it "sweet", I find it disgusting. Where is the groom's evidence? Do we need a log of where his penis has been?

The hymen is NOT an indication of virginity. Some women are born without that. If you do have it and are athletic or use tampons, then that that gone and most women are not even aware of when that happens. To propogate these continual lies about the hymen is dangerous and unfair to women.

Once, years ago, I attended the wedding of a dear friend...very conservative Christian church. The priest announced that she was "pure," but there was no framed certificate.

As a Christian I taught purity to my children as I was taught. Never would have wanted them to make a big deal or present a certificate at their wedding. I think that is a private matter between them and their spouse. I did tell my son that he had no right to expect his wife to be a virgin if he wasn't.

On this situation maybe the bride choose to do this on her own and it was important to her. That was her choice to make.
