TOPIC: Outrage as Maryland bride presents Christian pastor father with 'certificate of purity' to prove she's a virgin
Waiting until marriage is a lovely notion, I know several people that did, and they are happy for it. But having a doctor certify it, and frame a certificate, and make a whole speech about no man touching you, and honoring your father brings it into creepy town.
Not really. It shows respect to her father, her God and their teachings. It shows them she listened, and she wanted them to know.
So tell them! That's fine. But the whole way she went about it sends off the eww meter.
I have kept this commitment and present this certificate to my father Dr Michael A. Freeman to show how I have honored God and my earthly father in my body by maintaining my purity and that my hymen is intact on this 10th day of October 2015.'
Mr Freeman told BuzzFeed that he was not expecting to be presented with the certificate and was caught off guard when he was asked to stand during the wedding reception
He said: 'I was totally unaware of what was about to take place. During the remarks, she shared that she wanted to honor me by not allowing any man to touch her before her husband.'
Sorry, but any time you bring your parent into your sex life, I am gong to think it is weird.
Cornholing and muff diving are weird.

Well, I could agree with you--but then we'd both be wrong.
Why would you not think waiting till marriage is good thing? After all, you've announced here that you did.
Is this exactly the same thing you rail about with gays? That we don't care or need to know the particulars? Why do we need to know this? We don't.
But that's just it.
This is the polar opposite.
If it's ok for one, it's ok for the other.
If the gay community can have pride everything then why can't the straight person?

I do have to be truthful. I really thought virgins were thrown into volcanosome to appease the gods but it turned out it was Hollywood movies that made it up. Sorry about that.

The Mayans weren't sacrificing virgins, they were sacrificing captive adults.
Human sacrifice in Maya culture

During the pre-Columbian era, human sacrifice in Maya culture was the ritual offering of nourishment to the gods. Blood was viewed as a potent source of nourishment for the Maya deities, and the sacrifice of a living creature was a powerful blood offering. By extension, the sacrifice of a human life was the ultimate offering of blood to the gods, and the most important Maya rituals culminated in human sacrifice. Generally only high status prisoners of war were sacrificed, with lower status captives being used for labour.[1]
I think sacrificing virgins to the dragon was part of the movie "Dragon slayer".
All Hollywood.

Ed - More than one of my Anthropology courses included a unit on rituals of ancient tribes. There is a lot that was taught that is not very well-known.
You can get your hymen back with a purity ring. Or so I hear.

Bruce Jenner is bizarre. The framed certificate is not, IMHO.
- just Czech

I agree with you about Bruce Jenner.
I disagree with you about the framed certificate. Not because of it's existence, nor even because she gave it to someone. I think it's bizarre that she gave it to her father. She should have given the certificate to her new husband, the man she's going to give the hymen-in-question to. Her father doesn't need to know about her hymen anymore (if he even needed to in the first place). I also think she should have given the certificate to her husband in private.
