I worked on his presidential campaign, but knew him long before that, when he was dating a friend of mine. He's was as genuine in person as he was on TV/radio. He will be missed, he was a really really great guy...

He was also a senator, defense lawyer, and an AUSA in Tennessee, and lobbyist. And that's just a few of his career highlights.

I never knew him as anything but an actor. Probably a lot of people are like me. My DH remembers him as Senator.
