I think it is a matter of perspective here. Some think it was stealing. Others have loser boundaries when it comes to family members. More like share & share alike.

That's what I'm saying.  I don't care if grandma wants to make a federal case out of it--I think it's stupid, but whatever.

if, however, you want to set those boundaries, then do it.  Don't fail to say a damn word and think it's magi ally going to fix itself.

A tool is not a consumable, so not a like comparison.  The like comparison would be nails or screws or maybe some lumber--but not the actual tools.

However, I have said that if I came home and a vehicle was gone because one of my kids needed it, that it wouldn't be a big deal.  The same thing for my deWalt cordless drills.

But that's the thing.

You have an understanding, basically they have permission to take those things.

She wasn't borrowing the make up she was taking it without permission so she could KEEP it. Your argument is stupid and you just can't admit it. Borrowing is not the same thing as taking...lol

Husker is living in his imaginary world again. He should ask his wife if she would be upset if her $80 make up suddenly went missing...

But if the LW doesn't want that--it's up to her to make that clear.  maybe the girl takes her moms make-up and doesn't see the distinction here.  Maybe she is just a klepto and grandma doesn't realize half the crap shes taken.

That's why I made the distinction between a consumable such as a soda or a bag of chips--or makeup--and things like money, tools, jewelry, etc...

Jack Daniels is consumable too. But I would be mad as hell if someone took my $250 bottle of Sinatra Edition.

So you agree that taking ANYTHING without PERMISSION is stealing?

No matter what it is.

Oh brother.  If you think kids or grandkids never raid the liquor cabinet--I have some bad news.

Not what I said.  I didn't say I agreed.  What I said was if SHE wantd that boundary--then she needed to set it.
