Well, Ben Carson thinks Joseph from the Old Testament built the pyramids. BuzzFeed found this claim in a speech Carson gave at Andrews University, a Michigan school that describes itself as the "flagship educational institution" of the Seventh-day Adventist Church that Carson belongs to:

Republican presidential candidate Ben Carson told graduates during a commencement address in the late ’90s that he believed the pyramids in Egypt were built by the biblical figure Joseph to store grain, and not, as most archeologists contend, as tombs for pharaohs. ... “My own personal theory is that Joseph built the pyramids to store grain,” Carson said.

The Old Testament Joseph is said to have been sold into slavery in Egypt by his brothers before rising to prominence after interpreting one of the pharaoh's dreams (a dream involving grain and famine).

“And when you look at the way that the pyramids are made, with many chambers that are hermetically sealed, they’d have to be that way for various reasons. And various of scientists have said, ‘Well, you know there were alien beings that came down and they have special knowledge and that’s how—’ you know, it doesn’t require an alien being when God is with you.”

In ancient history, it is possible, IMHO. Joseph was a very intelligent man.

There is no proof that he didn't build it either.

That is the Playbook of Dems. They always try to paint Repos as "stupid". It's what they do. So, they really can't pin that on him since he is a neurosurgeon but instead, they are going to try this tactic.

my lady's family is seventh day adventist--her uncles are very high church ( working in positions at the international level )--have met nearly all of that side of her family and would not consider them nuts at all--in fact, quite the opposite--extremely intelligent, extremely dedicated--humble and gracious without pretension-wonderful people indeed

I wouldn't call Doctor Carson ignorant in the general sense, but it's possible for a person to be smart about many things and ignorant about other things. I believe he was ignorant about the reason for the pyramids when he made his speech. That doesn't detract from his fine, very skilled, and knowledgeable work as a physician.

If the pyramids were for grain storage, they'd be hollow. They're not. They're almost completely solid. And the Egyptians knew how to write.
Maybe the Sphinx was a repository for organic heirloom vegetables and salad dressing.....

 Not all were built for the same reason. Some were built to store thing.

If I remember correctly, they were not used for dead Pharoahs till the third dynasty. 

The step pyramid of the 2nd dynasty was built to store grain and such.

They the closest thing to our climate controlled warehouses.

I'm not an expert, but I remember doing a study on them in drafting.

The engineering of those things are amazing.

Just to keep them from collapsing in on itself.

I don't think Carson was talking about the pyramids of Giza, but the step pyramids of Memphis, which are far older. Huge difference, IMHO.
