Not really. As much as you'd like this to be true it's not but go ahead and think you know what EVERYONE likes if it makes you feel superior.

There are several topics where I care what husker thinks. Because he is a logical thinker. But food choices, not so much (sorry, Husker). Although I love turkey, I just can't bring myself to try it as a beef substitute.

LOL Well, for everyone who feels it necessary to tell me what to eat and what not to eat thanks so much. Didn't ask for that advice, didn't want it, and don't care. I don't normally buy ground and just needed some ideas, which I got. Thank you to the ones that actually helped.

Well this thread didn't turn out the way I thought it would.  confuse

Apparently different opinions are not appreciated. Go figure.

What was the question?

The question was "does anyone have any good recipes for ground turkey?"

Somehow we ended up at "people who eat turkey are silly."

So that happened.

The question was does anyone have recipes for ground turkey. Not whether it had any taste or whether or not you shouldn't eat it. I got some ground turkey free and I'm GOING to make it. I pretty sure I'm going to try SB's idea. Make meatballs with apple and sage.

Around here, he's right. I don't know of anyone around here who makes or uses ground turkey. Must be a regional thing.

I love turkey.  I love turkey every way but ground.  I haven't ever found a really good way to fix it.  However, I got some free so I figured what the heck.  I don't usually buy it.  I got some ideas here though.

We feed our dogs things that we're not going to use. If there's a smidge of chicken or something. We toss it in their bowl. Once, DS left a package of shredded cheese open and it got hard. We crumbled it over the dog's food and added a little broth. They were thrilled.

I don't understand the disgust re ground turkey. It's just meat to me. I buy ground turkey for stuff like tacos and meatloaf so I don't have to deal with the grease from ground beef. We do use ground beef for burgers but those are cooked on my griddle and the grease doesn't pool up.

For those who don't like turkey ... What's your main meat for Thanksgiving? Ham? Roast beef? Something else?
Personally, I prefer ham. I make both roasted turkey and ham. My family loves my turkey because the meat is so moist, even the bones are tender.

Sure!  Following SB's advice I hunted down a recipe keeping in mind it goes well with Thanksgiving like spices.  I found one with apples, sage, and thyme.  It looks pretty good and I think it won't be too complicated.  It asks for bread crumbs but I just substitute corn flakes because of DS.  Not a big deal.

I have so many spices...  I do need more bay leaves though.

FNW - I make a herb butter and rub it on the skin, under the skin, and inside the cavity. DH always gets amused at seeing my hands wedged under the skin rubbing butter on the meat. I've found that this keeps the meat nice and moist. Carving is easy because the meat slides right off the bone. I use a roaster for the turkey because the oven is busy with other dishes. I also baste the turkey with the cooking juices every hour or so once there's a decent amount of juice in the pan. I use the same cooking method minus the basting for my roasted chicken except the chicken gets a lemon stuffed in the cavity.

NJN - I do both since getting married because I make two different stuffings. My family has always stuffed the turkey so I do that too. I also make my MIL's mom's stuffing and make a big enough batch to have some for my side of the family and some for her. That stuffing is served as a side. MIL loves having her mom's stuffing back on her Thanksgiving table. I've never stuffed a turkey cavity with fruit but might do so someday. I stuff lemon in the cavity when I make roasted chicken and I imagine it'd be just as good with turkey.

You two should've seen DH's face the first Thanksgiving he was in the family. He turned a few shades of green when I pulled out the turkey neck and giblets (he doesn't like seeing organs and such) and protested loudly when I set them aside for the gravy. He didn't know that giblet gravy was a thing. My mother likes the neck so I save it for her. He ate the gravy and liked it but the protest was SO amusing!
