Morning all!

I find it sad that fewer and fewer people have this day off or at least that many memorials are going away due to lack of interest.

I am working, but from home since DD has the day off from school.

Morning. Again. LOL....

We have never had the day off.

But we always marked the day some how.

We turned our green light on last night.

I can't express how grateful I am to our military and their families.

Thank you seems so small.

My favorite Vet is my father. He served during the Cuban Missile Crisis. He was on the ship that went out to stop the Russians from delivering arms to Cuba meant to be used against the U.S. It was a scary time for him and for my mother. Fortunately the crisis ended favorably to our country and my father's ship.

God Bless America, and God bless our Vets!

My favorite is my grandfather.

He was in the medavac unit of the Army.

He was at Normandy among other places.

Happy Veteran's Day!

No day off here, either.

Both Fort Worth and Dallas have parades.

It's a shame the kids won't be able to go.

Have a good day everyone!

That's mind boggling to me.  You don't have ANY friends or acquaintances that are Vets?  No co-workers?

Several of the older men working at my local Costco are Vets, from Vietnam or Iraq.

Happy Veteran's Day!

My favorite vet is my DH. He served during the Vietnam War. He was in the Air Force and an engineer. He saw some rough duty. He did two tours before coming home.

My dad, bless his soul, landed on the Pusan Peninsula in Korea, July 4th, 1950. Almost half of his unit was killed in action. He was part of the 1000 yards held by Americans before they were rescued.

DH's dad, bless his soul, served in the Japanese theater during WWII for three years. He made many beach landings and was one of only three in his unit to return home unharmed.

I am very proud of these fine men and grateful for their service to our country.

There is an honors program here today at 11:00 for our vets and the community. I think I will go. :)

My FIL taught George H. W. Bush and Ted Williams how to dogfight. He joined wanting to fly overseas, but he was too good. (He was flying solo at 12 years old). They kept him in Pensacola to train other enlistees...

My grandfather was a WWII Navy Vet in the Royal Canadian Navy. Saw a lot of combat - was not the same when he came home. The war destroyed a lot of lives and the repercussions are felt generations later. This is why we must never forget and we must support the Syrian refugees and those for whom war is still a daily reality. Their lives will be affected for generations to come.

I verbally thanked my SIL, and my Dad up in heaven. Both vets who paid a price in PTSD.

Glad Dad is freed from the PTSD now. SIL still deals with it as best he can, but he's getting better thanks to a great therapist at the VA.

God bless all the vets.

One of my daughter's friend is a Marine. That girl is crazy. She can field strip a riffle but can't navigate herself out of wet paper sack. So funny.

The uncle of my niece and nephew was in Afghanistan. Can't remember the official title, but he defused bombs. He lost both legs, his right arm above the elbow and severe nerve damage on his left arm. Just happened that 20/20 was with them filming and caught the whole thing on camera.

Cousin is married to an Army man.

Pastor I grew up under was Navy.

I have an uncle served in Vietnam.

Pawpaw served all of WWII. And did a tour in Korea.

And I have records of family in the Civil war, both sides.

I'm already giving DD one of her Christmas presents early. I bought her the books The Care and Keeping of You and The Care and Keeping of Your Emotions, thinking that in the next few years they will have useful information for her.. but after having an emotional meltdown after spilling a glass of water, I think we may just be there already.

When I stop and think about it, I know a lot of Vets. My favorite of course is my dad. He was drafted for Vietnam. Instead of reporting for the Army, he joined the Navy. He really doesn't talk about his service much. He finally told my brother-in-law once why. He said when he was serving, it wasn't a popular choice. It wasn't safe to wear his uniform off base, the soldiers returning from war were spit on. He said it just wasn't something he likes to think about. He has also said that he's glad the tone is different and how supportive the public is of today's returning soldiers.

Others; my grandfather was Navy (WWII), my uncle Navy, my cousin is on year 17 in the Navy, another uncle retired as a general in the Air Force reserves. One cousin's wife was Army, another's husband is active duty Air Force. There are probably 20+ coworkers who are Vets. and countless other family members, friends and acquaintances.

I am thankful for all of their service. I know the life I am able to have here would not be possible without all of them and so many many many more.

It has to feel better having at least some kind of reason for being sick.

Now it can be treated.

Hope and pray you heal quickly.

So, the doctor is really trying to kill you off, right?

I would die without coffee, chocolate or wine. Good gosh, I hope you survive that diet.

The good news is, you may survive. biggrin

It was a holiday for me today. Did laundry in the morning; the laundromat was pretty much empty (it was early and raining). Texted my veteran friend to thank him for his service and sacrifice. He served in Vietnam and Desert Storm.  We have known each other for 24 years. We got together and I bought him a cup of joe at his favorite coffee place. He did not attend any of the memorial services today.  In previous years, he has usually attended.

It was a quiet and pleasant day. I was able to catch up on shows on the telly. I do not have a digital video recorder, but fortunately have on-demand channels, so I can watch the shows I missed the day after they air.

Tomorrow is casual day at work, which was earned by the amount of donations employees contributed during our current charitable campaign. Friday is our regular casual day, so I get to wear t-shirts two days in a row. Sweet. smile

I don't normally participate in the "daily" threads, but I didn't see a specific "Veteran's Day" thread otherwise, so...

Happy Veteran's day to all those that have served the cause of freedom. Defending our rights at the very real risk of your very own lives. Your courage and greatness is without measure, and we are forever in your debt.

Glad to see someone remembers Veterans Day. It seems like it is almost a forgotten day. Do they still sell Buddy Poppies - or is that gone, too?

My dad served in WWI in France, older brother end of WWII in Germany. I was in between Korean and Vietnam, so do not really consider myself a veteran.

I will never understand why mandatory military service and discontinued. It was one of, if not the, most important experiences of my life...

It fell out of favor when hundreds of thousands of young men were drafted and sent to Vietnam, and 50,000 were killed. AND absolutely nothing was gained for their sacrifice, except a huge bump in military spending.
