Personally, I keep it simple.I don't go crazy. We aren't field Hands. How much food can people really down in a sitting? We aren't big eaters. Yes, I will do the turkey, mashed potatoes, stuffing, gravy and a side dish of corn on the cob or some veggie. Dinner rolls and pumpkin pie. That's more than enough. I don't even do sweet potatoes anymore because neither DH nor the kids will eat them. I waved the White flag of surrender. They don't like them. I love them but not enough to cook yet another dish. I mean, if you want to go whole hog, then fine. But, I don't need to cook a ham and a turkey and 3 kinds of pie when one will do, etc. You can make it as big of a production as you want or you can simplify.

So now you dont like turkey????

A properly-cooked turkey doesn't need to have its natural flavor drowned in crap.

I think hell just froze over because I agree with flan.

The food we eat at Thanksgiving is usually the only time we eat those certain foods. I do a lot of casseroles. My kids love them.

My mom makes meatballs--and not with turkey.

She tried making turkey a few a few years ago (regular turkey, not turkey meatballs)--and she about had a revolt on her hands.

And, some people cook it the day before. There are a lot of things you can do to make it easier if you choose.

Every Thanksgiving and Christmas DH fry's two turkey's. He injects them too. They are so delicious and moist. I love them. I have scaled back on how much food I make but I still try to make the traditional foods. I don't do tons of appetizers like I used to. I don't make a tossed salad either. That never got eaten. I stopped buying rolls because they never got eaten. We do turkey, dressing, a TINY sweet potato casserole, green bean casserole, broccoli and cheese casserole, mashed potatoes and gravy. Usually that's all but then I make a pumpkin cheesecake, pecan pie, pumpkin pie, and maybe something else gluten free. My family loves those pies because they don't eat them any other time of the year. They will eat them. And the turkey gets eaten as sandwiches and then into casseroles.

DS will do a deep fried turkey, he knows how, in the driveway.  We are going to my sis's  Me and DS and most of my family will be there. WE all bring sides, wine, desert.

I use copious amounts of butter under and over the skin....herbs and apples and onions in the core for aromatics....makes good gravy.
I'm a turkey purest. Love the aroma of butter, sage, turkey and rosemary.

We do a turkey and usually another meat, roast or ham, just depends.

Vegetables are:
green beans, not a casserole, just the green beans
Whole or cream corn
Glazed carrots
Steamed zucchini and summer squash
Mashed potatoes
Yams
Fried okra
Various extras like deviled eggs, sliced tomatoes, pickles of different kinds.

Rolls, Cresents and biscuits.

Dessert is usually and butter pound cake, banana pudding, some kind of pie and assorted cookies.

We will have cheese, nuts and crackers for grazing.

And a bowl of butter mints.

I'll often make a small turkey just for the hell of it. No special occasion required. Turkey, stuffing, mashed potatoes, and French beans.

For some reason, I can't stage sage. Ugh. I think I used too much of it one time and now I just can't stand that flavor.

Why do people whine and not just do what they want to do? If you dont' want to cook dinner, then don't. The world won't stop spinning. And, yeah be a grown up and some people might not like your decisions in life. Sheesh. How do people function?

But goodness. The LW....just tell them you're not discussing it anymore and that they're acting crazy. Why can't some people tell loved ones when they're acting sh.itty?

DH sings this frequently. Once, he made eggs using this "recipe" and was put off when they came out green. Well, you used 4 green things ...

The eggs did come out good though.

I love the smell of rosemary. Hate the taste. I have a huge rosemary bush in my yard. I never use any, I just walk by it and shake it to smell it.
